alright so I've been desperate to run my savage and decided to do it in 4 degrees Celsius weather. i put a sock around the heat sink and that seemed to keep the temp between 150-200 Fahrenheit is that ok? also kind of getting soaked in some of the snow. running it quite rich too! is running in low temps going to permanently damage the engine in the long run? anything i can do to run it in the cold please help me i really wanna run this thing!

had the same situating the other day when i got RC fever and decided to break out the os30 savage X and ran 1 tank at 32F. had head covered and temps of about 180. not really a good thing to do. the engines rely on a temp of 220-260 to properly run. if they dont reach that temp, the internals do not expand properly and wear faster. i have read that you can wrap the head with aluminum foil to get temps up, but i was just too lazy to walk back to house to raid the foil drawer.
on a good note: the 3 foot virgin snow cover in the back 40 is no longer virgin territory! it took some time to get the snowpack out of the truck!

You're going to get a lot of different answers on this one but I will say if you're really set on running in the cold weather I would run an engine you don't care about or is on it's last leg.

I have a couple old engines that are close to shot that I use as my "cold weather" engines. As said above it will casue an engine to wear a lot more if it does not get up to proper operating temps. There is 4-1/2 to 5 months of the years I don't get to run nitro here but that is just a part of the game.

+1 on that and myself no matter how bad the fever is i dont run unless its above 50 F thats y i keep an electric rustler and a 1/16th e revo around for the winter months.

I live in indiana and the way I found to get around the cold weather is have winter motors that are expendable, because your going to damage it running below 200f , the biggest problem with run low temps is build up and the motor is not getting cleared out.
