my friend was wondering how hot an os .21 engine should run....i would tell him if mine would stay at a good temp but mine keeps on gettin to hot....

220 should be good is it and RG or a V-spec? What fuel % are you running. Not that all that matter much but may help with tuning issues.

Temp doesn't really mean much, as long as there is good smoke You won't be burning up the engine.

my engine started to smoke and it had a wiered smell coming from it

All the RG's I've run and been a part of running liked to run anywhere from 220-250. Any cooler and they were doggy, any hotter and they burned up plugs and ran generally crappy.

The one in my savage runs about 240 all day long on a 80 degree day.

Very true VB. There's so many variables in tuning. I'd say 220-230 is a good starting point, tune for perfomance from there and watch your smoke.
