ok i landed my slayer on the engine , crap ! broke engine mount and carb. housing . i replaced the parts and installed a 17 tooth spur gear up from the stock 14 tooth. i ran it yesterday and it ran HOT (240) i dont want to cook this engine . don't the new carbs come set to factory settings ? or is the taller clutch bell causing the heat problems . i thought about a head leak but it seems to run great untill the temp gets to high . i'm gonna mess with it after work , hopefully fix it for the weekend . any ideas would help .

the motor could be running to lean have u tried to re-tune the motor

A 3 tooth jump on the clutch bell is a good sized jump...so your RPMs will be up a bit higher when the truck gets moving faster. That will definitely cause some more heat, but from what I have read/experienced...240 is not really THAT hot for a motor.

I second that motion, my 2.5 averages around 260 and runs great

it must be running hotter than what my gauge is saying . because when i first fire it up it screams and then there is a rapid loss of power and within about 3-5 minutes of starting it the truck bogs down bad when you hit the throttle untill it has no power at all and i'm only burning maybe a 1/4 tank .it idles a little high but about where it did before the crash. i guess i'll check the carb settings . but i'm getting a pretty good smoke trail .

Smoke trail doesn't always mean your in tune though. Just do some trial and error. I think it was NCNitro or Rolex that had a nice tuning guide diagram up here somewhere. Check the General Nitro forum....it's there somewhere.

bad seal like the copper washers under the head or bad seal i warped the head (junk) in the crash ?

could also be an airleak traxxas bearings are notorious for leaking
