on my savage .25 it keeps reachin the 250-270 mark. i have the high speed out 3 turns and the low speed 4 1/2 turns out. it runs really good and has a nice trail of smoke, so how can i get it to run cooler? would it help if i backed the hsn out to 3 1/2 and the lsn in to 3 1/2? and if it helps i do alot of highspeed.)

i would say theres no need to make it run cooler as long as theres enough oil to lubricate the engine (hold the car put hand about 1inch away from exhaust tip and blip the throtle you should get a few drops of unburnt oil on your hand) just make sure it stays under 280-290

my nosram .28 only reaches peak power at around 250 then goes upto 275 with no ill effects

I have always been able to run engines on the cooler side no more then 230. an 3 different engines, but their is somthing about the HPI .25 I had to run at 260 before it would run well.

Just make sure you have good air flow through your body and a good amount of smoke is coming out of the exhaust and you will be fine

.25 temp problems

I had a .25 that I ran up to 360 before it started losing power. I freaked, shut it down dropped the piston to BDC and let 'er sit for a little while. Then fired it back up and started bashing again.....it still runs. That temp is not that bad I would have to agree just to keep it under 290 or so.

250*F good temp. 280*F getting hot. over 300*F too hot.

250 to 280 are fairly normal temps for high rpm runs. now if your idleing around 270* its to lean.

would it help if i backed the hsn out to 3 1/2 and the lsn in to 3 1/2?

If you're getting a good idle, and good punch off the line, you should NOT adjust the LSN. Leaning it out will only up the temps.
Make note of where the LSN is, and richen it a hair, and as long as it still launches good, that should bring the temp down a bit.
You will need to make slight adjustments on the HSN almost every time you run, since ambient temp and humidity affect the tune.

i found a good tip for adjusting the low needle.
The Pinch Test.

pinch the fuel line closed about 3 inches from where your line connects to the carb at the h needle. it should take approx 4 seconds for your idle to increase from the now lean condition. longer than that is a rich, shorter than 4 seconds is lean.

when you idle you should load up after 10 to 12 seconds as well contrary to popular belief. Gassers should idle all day, Nitros need to load up a bit at idle unless your a full wot runner all day long. lol

Had a .25 in my savage, that mill was not happy till it hit 270-275, then it ran like my wife when she goes shopping.......

ONE of the 2 picci max 21s was like that too Miketroll. would run like poop until it hit 260 to 280. at 310 it started to die off.

but the other picco max 21 i had would kill at 260 and start dying out around 280?

tune by performance and smoke trail. use temps as a guide.
fwiw my Jammin JPX .21 runs like a rapped ape at 205 to 250. never had it hotter than that though.
