i got an aftermarket cooling head the other day to try and get the temps down cause it kept overheating even when running really rich, but the new cooling head isnt helping as much as i expected. I'm still running the hi speed needle at more that 4 turns out and still at upwards of 260 even with the head. is there anything else i could do to get the temps down, or something I'm just overlooking?

I'm using powermaster 20%. how do you go about checking the accuracy of the gun?

If your temp gun is right I would check for an air leak.

What aftermarket head are you running? Is your air filter clean? Do you have a fuel filter, if so, is it clean? Is your fuel tank cracked? Did you put new fuel lines on recently? Did you happen to seal the carb and backplate? Is the drivetrain smooth? There are a number of reasons why it would be overheating. Check all those things, and report back.

My Revo's idle was a bit high when it was overheating. After getting it as low as possible, It dropped the temps quit a bit.

I'm running a nova race pro aluminum cooling head. i always clean the air filter after every run, and i just installed a fuel filter so it is clean. the tank has no cracks, and the driveterrain seems good. as far as an air leak goes, whats the best way to check for that? about the idle, i have it set a little hi because when i let off the throttle the idle will dip really low before it comes back up to where its supposed to be, so if i set the idle any lower it will die after i come off the throttle.

i also think that I'm going to buy some odonnell fuel today to see if the problem is in my powermaster fuel. its really the only thing that i can think of.

to check the temp gun. go to something that you know the exact temperature of it..... in my case the processor on my computer. The system tells me what temp it is. then I know what to look for on my gun.

Batteries can also contribute to an invalid reading.

I am having the same problem on my .21 Ofna Pic. Max engine. My LHS adjusted everthing to run rich so I can get used to it. I ran it today and the temp jumped to 260- 270. Any suggestions? One other question, I noticed I need to rev a little higher for the clutch to engage (4wd t-max). Is this normal. My neighbor has a sport maxx and and barely touches his throtle and it does not even hesitate. Thanks for the help

Sounds like the slipper might be slipping a bit too much. Try cranking down on the nut at the end of the top shaft that the slipper is on. I leave mine locked. I know some people back them off, but I lock mine, and haven't had a problem with it. As far as the temps., all these sound fine to me. I don't know what those bigger engines run at, but my Maxx engine won't go much below 300 unless I want the slowest truck in the world. Hey, it holds compression like no other, even at, or over 300, so why bother. Got about a year on the engine too, and its been running 300 since the 1st tank after break in. Only thing to do to get it cooler is richen it up until you hit a happy medium.

When I had a 2.5 it ran 250-275 even with an aftermarket cooling head.

Butter, I am not sure if your response was to me about the slipper. My friend has a sport maxx and he could just slightly pull the trigger and she moves. If I pull mine slightly it just revs...Once I pull it in enough she will buck (clutch engaging?) and she will go..not very fast. I want to lean it out a little more but hesitant too since she was running at 260-270...My LHS had set it to run rich...Thanks for any help.

sounds like typical reverse equiped t-maxx.. your buddy prolly has the forward only conversion..

and the first guy.. have you changed your fule lines?? sounds like a air leak.. double check your carb neck and be sure to push it down befor you tighten it.. if you have an air leak that lets air mis with the fuel and as you know more air = leaner.. so it runs hot..

ok so the hesitation (higher rev) is ok than? Yes my buddy has the sport maxx ( 2 wd forward only). My other concern is still the high temp. Anyone familar with factory settings on the .21 ofna maxx? Tks

the hesitation is normal yes.. good no.. thats why people with maxxes do the forware only conversion..

the FOC really made a difference in my truck.

Its good for the tranny, it puts less stress on the gears. Instead of the gears being jammed into motion, they are engaged more smoothly.

oh, and removing the reverse will take out that jerky take off.

I got to get that FOC installed. It has been on the shelf a while. I'll probably do it while I am messing with the diffs.
