What is the skill level required to tear down the t-maxx to clean. I know what to use to clean it but is it very difficult to put back together? I have never done it before and don't want to put myself in a bind putting it back together.
:help:

opps put this in the wrong section should have put it in t-maxx sorry bout that

Not really. Basically you can just remove all the screws, get all the parts separated and clean what you need to, and reassemble. Sometimes you don't need to take apart EVERYTHING to get it all clean.

All you'll need is your cleaning supplies, screwdrivers for taking it apart, and a manual to refer to. This is also a great way to learn about your T-Maxx a little bit more.

If you don't have exploded views I would highly sugest printing them out from the traxxas web site http://www.traxxas.com/products/nitro/maxx/tmaxx33/trx_tmaxx33_views.htm You might also want to seperate the diffferent parts of the truck into zip loc bags and lable them acordingly just to make reasembly easier. just some sugestions...but it will defitnatly help you learn your truck and it will get easier each time you do it...

Like 'bad' said, I use zip-loc bags, write on them first with a marker, then put parts and screws in. Those exploded view will really help too. I tore my Revo down to the bare chassis and put it back together that way.

How long does it usually take you guys to tear it down, and rebuild? BTW thanks for the suggestions so far

The first time I tore my Revo down and cleaned it, I did it over a 2-day period. The actual tear down and reassemble time gets shorter every time you do it. You figure out where and how things attach to the frame etc. The first time I put it back together, I would get something put on and realize I had to attach something else first before proceeding with the next part. It's kinda trial and error on the rebuild.
Now I'd say I could tear it down completely in about 90 minutes and probably reassemble in that same amount of time. It goes a long way to learning how the parts work and exactly what they do, I understand so much more than I did before I tore it down.

I have not tore my rig down yet but plan to very soon. These tips will help me in the process, thanks for posting this thread BZBOARDCO.

Hmmm, you have to tear down the truck to clean it?

After running, I just wipe it down, WD 40 the engine, removing the glowplug (which is a pain in the ass to put back when you don't have steady hands) and clean the air filter.

Glad I found this thread. How often do you guys tear it down?

Well i usually just do that, but I took it to a baseball field with a clay diamond and the whole truck is orange...lol It is pretty bad

You don't need to tear down your ride all the time, unless you go play in the mud or something like that, but it is a good idea I would say at least once a year to just go through the whole truck, check every thing over, clean it real good, replace any parts with lots of wear while you have it apart, and I would say do that to all of your RC's not just the nitro's if you drive them on a regular basis...also if it is a older max I would highly recommend getting a hex screw kit for it, like the ones fast eddy sales...

spray it with simple green or 409 and hose it off(dont spray the airfilter directly or the electronics). when your done blow it off with compressed air then wd40 it or armour all pretty good let it set a few min. then blow it off again.

looks like new!

however tearing down a tmaxx i would rate a 2 out of 10 to reassemble. its easy.

if your somewhat mechanicly inclined just go for it and teair it apart it never hurts to figure out how your truck works! and keeping your manual around helps for the first few times! the t-maxx is an easy truck to work on!

I tore my down cause I went and played in the mud. Other partial tear downs were to replace parts. I'll clean whatever I take off. This winter when it gets too cold for me to stand outside, I'll tear it down and do a serious time consuming cleaning. Then next spring I won't want to get it dirty again.......LOL
