Sunday was our final list race event of the year (but probably not final event for sure). The plan was to also do a team race against another local nitro no prep team, but the other team backed out (suspiciously, as their excuse was it was "too cold", yet it was a beautiful day with temps around 70). No matter - we had most of our team on hand, with one guy unavailable because it was his wife's birthday. It was the debut of several new cars, including my own Viper, Invader II. After getting set up, we got to tuning, and working on the cars, and getting ready for the first callout.

There were five drivers, and six cars overall on the list (not including the no show driver). First callout was Big Moe's Camaro vs my Nova, Incinerator. It was still a little chilly yet, but we lined up. I wish I had video for this one, but the wives were busy getting the grill set up. Now the Nova is actually to be driven by my brother in law, but he needed some practice just yet, so he stood by and watched this one. This race was hiliarious - I red lighted, and Moe flamed out about five feet out, so he grabbed his car and ran down the track through the trap with it. We were all laughing are asses off! Hey, whatever it takes, right?

Next up I took a callout with the Nova from Jose, running his Jato truck. My BIL was still standing by and observing. The track was still cold, and that showed in this race. It was Jose's first time on a tree, and by his own admission he needs more practice on timing, as I got a pretty good jump on him.

Next up I called out Dino's Camaro for the two spot with my Mustang, Hissed Off. This was a hell of a race! Dino, who's really, really good on the tree, got out on me, and I started running him down, but somehow he found a little extra at the end to hold me off and take the photo finish win.

No cars were harmed in the carnage! In fact Hissed off didn't have even a scratch on it. The Camaro had a little bit of road rash, but nothing bad.

I called out Moe's Camaro with Hissed Off. Moe is running one of my chassis, using a big block LRP .28, modded. Didn't think I actually had a chance with the OS .21 tm powered Mustang - but that's why you run ;)

Moe blew his gears - and Hissed Off cruised for the win, retaining the 3 spot in the list. After that, Jose called out the Nova again, but his truck blew its transmission and came up short. We took a lunch break, and then I got to getting my BIL accustomed to driving the Nova. He was doing pretty well for a noob, so I figured it was time to do some practice hits off the tree before calling out Moe. I got the car running and handed him the remote while I grabbed a hot dog. SMACK! Straight into a curb, hit the gas instead of the brake, lol. All the 3D printed arms/bulkheads were busted. And that folks is why I made that car that way, I knew I might be replacing parts, lol!! Ok, that car was done for the day, I had spares, but not enough to fix the whole car.

We were getting thin on cars. Moe fixed his gears, but they stripped again - too much power for plastic spurs. It was time for Dino's #2 spot Camaro to call out Invader at the #1 spot. I wasn't too confident actually, this car had not yet made a single pass. Earlier while tuning, I could tell it had an absolute insane amount of power with the new SH .28-8 turbo - and given the cooler temps, I had major doubts this thing could get down in one piece. Nonetheless, it was time, so I got it going, and warmed it up.

Boy this little Viper was nasty and mean. I've always had nothing but good things to say about SH engines, and comparing this to the KE 25sp1, well there isn't one. This thing just snarls, with a sound like a cammed up hot rod. We lined up, and both cut a good light, leaving together - but that little Viper ran out of the Camaro's life instantly. I wasn't even giving it full throttle, and even backed off on the big end after I saw I was going to easily win. Dino's poor Camaro took another bad hit, as his left front tire came unglued and it swerved left and hit the trap and went into orbit. Again, just some scuffing and no chassis injuries to report.

That ended our fine day, hoping to get another get together in before the weather turns too cold, and get our last team member on the list, as well as my BIL some more wheel time (I will bring more spare parts this time!).

Some more photos from the day:

Shame about the other team (we suspected strongly they decided they wanted to attend an electric cash days event nearby as those guys also run brushless). That being said, the nitro no prep scene is moving in a positive direction. We saw the Jato Nationals had a huge turnout a couple weeks ago, and we've got other teams and organizers working with us in the region. It's gonna blow up, lotsa folks coming together to make it happen.

LOL. This car.

I don't think even a stock set of arms/bulkheads would have survived this one. I took off the broken a-arms, and for fun just threw it around the garage to see how strong it was, and yeah, it actually just bounced off the floor. I already have another bulkhead printed/painted sitting there in view, so I'll print out a new rear one, and the new front arm and rear arm that are broken. Once I'm confident he knows more what he's doing, I'll replace with something I actually paid money for :D
