I don't have enough post count to be able to use classified section. Turns out you don't need a motor mount when upgrading it to a 540. I saw someone post that all he did was use a little masking tape to cover up the larger holes on side of motor that gets screwed onto motor mount to help keep debris from getting into engine.

I did that but really it probably isn't necessary. The motor mount plate probably keeps debris out. I revered the spur gear and slid it out a smidge so it lines up perfectly with the flywheel.

Also I bought a new VW baja beetle body for it off Amazon for $14 shipped. I need to drill some mounting holes in it. I didn't use all the stickers from the Holiday Buggy kit. I have a couple left that say "California" (my home state). I'll put some 1970s era stickers on it.

Can't wait to finish it and take it out and bash it around. I can definitely feel the increased power of the 540 torque tuned motor.

Here's a pic of the new 540 motor. Those Tamiya RC tools are cool. I ordered a set after I had already built the kit. Most home tool boxes have everything you need to put RC vehicles together, but these are kinda cool to have in a nice small kit.

The kit tools will get by but a tool upgrade is very helpful!
I'm glad to see you are enjoying this buggy.
I bet that new 540 motor will be an enormous improvement over the little 380.

I'm looking forward to a review on your upgrades.:thumbs-up:

Thanks. Next is I will try to engineer some body mounts for the VW body.

I have some quality tools like mostly SK (inherited from my stepdad) and some USA made Power Kraft (USA) and I've supplemented them with some mostly German tools over the years. Wera and Felo mostly. I mostly use them on full size cars though. :)

I need to make an RC exclusive toolbox of specific tools.

I have SK tools and I think Wera but can't remember what. Pliers maybe.

My hex drivers are MIP. No complaints other than price. No different than any other good tool tho. Get what we pay for!

Which VW body?
I love baja bug bodies for RC!

I don't know the brand of it. It was on Amazon. Just a generic VW baja beetle that was $14 on Amazon Prime with free shipping. It came with a sticker sheet with Sheriff and Police and badges/shields.

I am not going to use those if anyone wants them. I think I'll paint the body yellow. I already ordered some stickers that have sorta old school car part brand logos -- like STP, Holley Carbs, KC, Champion Spark Plugs, etc..

This baja beetle body is perfect for this rear engine Tamiya. I will post pics when I paint the body and get it mounted.

I peeled the plastic off the VW body and added a few stickers to it. I bought a 100 pack of stickers of Amazon that are pretty cool. Lots of car part brands and race team logos.

I pulled out an old 1990s era Erector set i bought for a buck and used some of the metal structural members to make a body mount/post. That still needs some work.

Also I think I'll detail paint the engine area. I think I have some grey paint.
