Taking the Plunge

Well I sold some stuff and have decided to go LiPo in my Crawler, I just placed my order for 2 11.1V 3S 25C 1500mah LiPo Batteries, and a Silver STRC 4-Link battery/servo mount, now is the hard part, waiting for all of it to arrive so I can finally see if I will like going LiPo, one guy at the comp I was at said he gets about 45 minutes run time on one battery, if that is the case the extra run time and wheel speed will be very nice, I will update with pics once I get my new items.

I got these,

there the same ones the guy at the comp who took first on sunday runs, he said "those hong kong packs are great, they are all I run and I get about 45 minuts out of a pack"

Any idea what balancing tap I need for these by looking at the pic, and do I really have to balance these or not?

nice, mystery packs are awesome on crawlers. they just use the standard "universal" 3s balance plugs so pretty much any balancer you get will have this type of plug.

Not to be a smart ass but there is no such thing. The tap on that battery pack looks to be a Jst-xh, that is the same tap as a Zippy Lipo uses it is also know as a Align balance tap.

Here is that tap on a 1450 maH 3 s 30c Zippy

they plug in the same on the majority of balancers out there though. doesn't really matter what the technical name is because most packs and balancers use the same ones (not the same exact ones but plug the same as far as i know).

I was just saying.... I was just trying to be helpful. I know there are at least 5 different kinds of taps out. I wouldn't want anyone to damage their battery or burn their charger or balancer up. :

Plug may be the same, but the wires located within the plug can be different and will depend on the type of balancer used.

Maxamps uses the same plug for both a Astro/Blinky and Hyperion balancers, but the wires are located differently within the plugs. They may use the same plug on all their packs, but those are the only 2 types I have.

ok ok, i just know I've had about 20 different brands that used the same balancer, the max amps and the enerlands are the only ones I've had that were different.

I'm sure no one will agree but NO you do not "have" to balance them, its better yes but not a must, i used the same ecpower 3s pack for 3 months charging it everyday atleast once a day without a balancer and when i finally got a balancer it wasn't out of balance. people used lipo's long before balancers where around.

I will agree with that, but I do balance my packs every time I charge them but only because the charger has a built in balancer.

Ok now that we got what batteries use what balancer out of the way, could some one give me a link to the balancer that will work with my batteries that I am getting and my Ice charger, because I am confused as hell right now, LOL!!!! this is all new stuff to me.

you should just run down to your lhs and i bet they will have a balancer for cheap like an electrifly or something and you will beable to see it in person before you buy it.

Will some thing like the Astro Blinky balancer work? at $25-30 bucks they are still a little pricey, Is there some thing out there cheaper because all the hobby shops are talking 30 bucks and up.
