I'm so proud! It broke just where a full sized rig would break! I sheared a stub shaft on the Taco. It bound up between some plywood and foam on a friend's garage course.

Good old fashioned wear and tear šŸ˜

I just can't bring myself to cannibalize another rig, so I guess it'll wait until i get replacements. šŸ„ŗ

I want to see more Taco crawling vids. So hurry up and get him back up and running! Love that truck.

I put some quality time into fixing some tiny trucks today ā¤ļø

Taco Truk is gtg, with another cg adjustment, and some velcro for the hood.

It sits pretty aggressive now...

Fixing Taco was so easy I decided to motor swap the yeller jeep. Out with the burned up stock motor, and in with the mofo
20220521_182754.jpg
20220521_182156.jpg

Slight size difference...
Had to strip a bunch out to get to everything
20220521_182605.jpg

But I got it in there and function tested.
20220521_184139.jpg

It was sitting at 55/45 ratio, so I deleted the rear brass pumpkin cover and moneyed with body height a little. It's always been kinda tippy
20220521_194714.jpg

Swapping out the rear diff cover and losing a couple plastic bits here & there got the ratio real close to 60/40.
20220522_013142.jpg

I definitely like the new stance better. It climbs like crazy now. It's not as heavy as it looks, either (325g).
20220522_013107.jpg

I wouldn't be surprised if I ditch the tires soon. They're the knockoff hyraxs from treal. They've never really softened up the way I had hoped.
I was actually inspired to rebuild my white truck, too!
But I have to make that another post- too many pics
This was my first 24. It's gone through 2 esc's, and 3 motors. It's definitely been rode hard & put away wet, so I completely rebuilt it.

Motor fits once you do a 4 link conversion.
20220522_011325.jpg

But first you gotta take apart an old burned out servo for pinions. Then you gotta drill it out for the surpass shaft
20220521_213709.jpg

Then hook it up the the tegu that you ordered forever ago and have been just sitting on
20220521_213833.jpg

Got it all test fit, and did some adjustments to the hard body to fit the longer wheelbase and lower body mounts
20220522_011325.jpg

I ended up having to tweak the body quite a bit, and reglue it once I had it reconfigured. In the meantime I grabbed a humvee body I impulse shopped during the plandemic and did some cutting...
20220522_012413.jpg

Oh my,
20220522_012437.jpg

That's got potential!
20220522_012452.jpg

Yeah, I might not even try to put the hardbody back on.

Wow. Ok, what did you do to Taco to get it sitting like that? That looks killer. Do I see a bit of servo horn on the upper front shock mount on the Humvee?

I remember him mentioning he runs springs only in the rear shocks.

Yeah, that wss before this post. Taco is sitting lower here. I assume it has the upper shock mounts raised.

Good eye, @WickedFog , I used bits of servo horn to lower the back end of white magic (been running it w/o rear fenders).
20220522_093909.jpg

All the lowering I did on Taco was in the body mounts. I ditched the magnets for velcro, chopped the rear frame rails, and drilled new holes for the hinges

It's not that magnets ain't cool, but they don't hold on tumbles, and add weight up high.

Ugg,
May as well get this thing running, too.

So I bought a set of trailing arms from mofo to try out on the boinger. There were problems...
20220522_113614.jpg

I noticed a tiny blem on one end before I put them in, but figgered it'd play. Wrong.
20220522_121752.jpg

I sent mofo an email, and glued on a few layers of plastic as backing- just to see how they ran. The other one broke in the first pack šŸ™. So I winged it with spare links.
20220522_215421.jpg

I'm not at all butthurt toward mofo. Everyone has a bad batch once in awhile. I'll shoot him an email, or call tomorrow. They weren't super effective, anyway. I can't fit a big enough pinion in the tranny to make it fast. It does crawl pretty well, though. It should- the wheelbase is 'uge! The wheels are super light (Shaka's), and I'm running scramblers.
20220522_183303.jpg

I had a random ezrun 18a brushless esc laying about, so I crammed it in there with all the wires. I also put in a $14 chinesium outrunner. The pink one.
20220522_183322.jpg

And the 2s batt packs fit nicely up front
20220522_183312.jpg

I gotta say, the el cheapo esc does a good job of crawling with the little pink outrunner. I'm impressed. I'm not impressed with the servo. The one I started with was kinda suspect before I put it in, and died very shortly. Then I dropped in one of the little purple jobbers, and it keeps freezing up on me. It needs brass knuckles up front pretty bad. It's amazingly light (282g), but the ratio is not right yet, and it tips pretty badly on steeps. The ratio is 54/46 (was my number- any old reggae fans here?). Once it gets another 15-20g up front, it'll prolly be magic. And I gotta get the servo sorted.

Oh, and it'll run on 3s šŸ¤©

I don't think any of the 3d printed plastic links will hold up very long. I dunno though. 3d printed parts are great for detail stuff, ya know, aesthetics. But functioning parts are going to be sketchy.

Have you tried the Ecopower 827 servos yet? They are faster and stronger than the Emax, but you need to use the Hot Racing mount (HRASXTF24M01).

I haven't tried ecopower yet. Will do.

@Pat_ranch, how is everything going? Long time no see. How do you like the Carbon fiber frame rails? Any pros or cons?

I have been worried about Pat. Hoping he is doing ok. I have the carbon rails on both the Deadbox and Carnage, and they are very nice. The fit of everything is perfect, and they are much, much stronger than the flimsy stock rails. These are the ones I bought...

Great to know. I've been thinking of getting a scx24 or 3. I was curious as to cf frame rails as I just bought a set for another scx10 build. Shooting for a in-between 1.55 and 1.9 build, using small diameter 1.9 or large diameter 1.55 body will be a 1992 cherokee.
