Hi All,

I am kinda new to this nitro truck hobby, been flying electric rc copters for the past few years and just got the t maxx a month ago. I broke the 2.5 engine in correctly. It just appears sluggish, can't wheelie at all either. the engine is sealed for sure. all jets were at factory settings, tweaking slightly to try to get more power, but its not there. i know its not too par, as my neighbor has one and its the same one, but kicks butt on mine??? i even put on another carb, no difference. I have compression, i clean the filter when i am done each day, and any combo of high/low speed jet settings dont bring the performance up to his truck. any ideas???????/ thanks all...........bill

His could very possibly be gear differently than your's.....

I've too recently bought a TMAXX (6 mos) ago and had similar issues at first, then realized it was tuning issue. If you have checked all the mechanicals of it (air leaks, clutch fuel grade and quality, etc) then it is probably tuning. I've learned tuning can be a lenghty process as a novice maybe even monotonous! Seems like you/we just want to go out and bash. But tuning is critical for optimum performance.
Ther are many posts in this forum that describe proper tuning. Also a temp gun is a must for accurate tuning. Start with the HSN then the LSN, be patient and you too will get there. ;)

well, the tuning has been pretty thorough, as my buddy the mechanic has a temp gun and has helped me too. i have been reading a lot of the posts first, and we have worked on this together. we adjust by /16 turns at a time to not miss the sweet spot. i put a new carb on too??? Oh, my neighbors, he got stock, same as me, same place, same model, and 2.5 for sure. dont get me wrong, i am not dissatisfied with it, just after seeing his, know mine could be "beefier".

Traxxas engines aren't known to be the highest quality. He probably got a good one. You could always go to an 18t clutch bell to get some low-end grunt. Top speed will suffer slightly.

yeah, i have actually had to replace the cluthch shoe/spriing assembly the very first week, so i have had exp. yanking the motor and stuff, and the bell is right there. but i love the blur you see as it goes racing by!! I dont have to worry about envying my neighbors t maxx anymore, he totaled it. poor guy, i feel bad for him ;) Oh, one other question for you smart folks who know these crazy contraptions so well; mine will take a few seconds to idle down fully after bursts of speed for a while, let me guess, prob something with the low speed jet?????
