I really like the tread design on the Savage, I'm curious if they are any better than the stock T-Maxx tires. I usally drive on loose dirt and gravel. Also will the Savage tires fit on Maxx rims ? I know the hex size is the same but wasn't sure about the rim diameter. I'm just not very impressed with the stock Maxx tires and I know there are tons of after market tires, but I like the look of the Savage ones and you can get them at a decent price on ebay compared to other after market tires.

The Tmaxx ones can be made better if you cut out notches in the tread. They will kinda look like the Maxx Mashers.

I was thinking of doing that with my Dremel. I posted a thread about that once and I got a lot of good feedback about doing it just havent tried it yet, hmm where is my dremel lol

I am going to be using the Imex soft compound Swamp dawgs... They feel like they will hook up on anything... Ill let ya know when i get the maxx goin...

This was a set of stock maxx tires that I trimmed. They slide through a turn instead of flipping but they don't have much forward bite

They do. I used them in the winter on my savage and my maxx (when I had one). The rubber stayed plyable and still hooked up on hardpacked snow enough to where you could still get good power down and control the rig.

The savage tires are a little taller which will make a stock 2.5 maxx work harder, so you may have to gear down. Also, they balloon up quite a bit more than stock tires, but that is kind of fixable by wrapping the foams in a couple layers of duct tape before putting them in the tires. It sounds goofy, but it works.

Also, the savage tires will fit stock t-maxx rims. It's what I ran on my savage as the stock HPI rims sucked. The hex's rounded out. I only run 2.5 maxx rims with any of my tires now. They are durable as all get out.

I tried notching the stock tires, but they still didn't hook up very well.

The savage tires are a few ounces lighter a piece than stock maxx tires, so that will help some with the larger diameter problem.

The savage tires work good for me and get pretty good traction. Try cutting the T-maxx tires first and if u dont like it just get the savage tires.

Thanks for the imput guys :) For now I'm going to stick with the stock tires but I've been keeping an eye on ebay for a good deal

Keep the terrain in mind when choosing new tires however the stock savage tires really do hook up good. Mucho Bueno compared to the stock tires on the maxx.

I just sold them lol. They are nice but they are a little heavier than most other wheels.

JESSE G if your looking for traction the savage tires are ok but they balloon and flex a lot. They are a hand full at high speeds.

I think ill just keep what I have for now, I want something with less flex thats for sure, I have the narrow suspension and that would just make it that more easy to roll over.

I dont really like the tires on my savage. They baloon WAYYY to easy, and just seem kinda flimsy. The tires I had on my maxx (The stocks) I like, and they seemd to throw alot fo poop, but were alot stiffer tire. I also had a set that were cut, and I liked them alot too. they werent the prettiest things, but hooked up awesome.

Does anyone know if Revo rims and tires will work on a T-Maxx with out rubbing that was another option I was thinking of. They have a much thinner sidewall so I would assume they dont have a lot of give on hard cornering and is there a weight differance? I want something lighter I have the original .15 Maxx so it doesn't have tons of power lol.

The revo tires and wheels should fit the wide maxx with no problems but I don't know about the original. As for weight almost anything is lighter than the stock T Maxx tires.

if your worried about ballooning tires easy trick to keep them from doing this ,not my idea but i read it in a mag and tried it ,works awsume ,
before mounting the tires run a strip of duct tape on the insides of the tire the width of the tread and when you mount them they will not balloon on ya
done tried it and it works ,giver a try it works on soft compound buggy tires too ,

I think i heard that from one of the members here a while back... Did it to some of my t-maxx tires... worked well.

Flip them inside out, put the foams inside, then wrap them with fiberglass packing tape. CA the edges of the tape, let them sit overnight, then flip them right side out, re-insert the foams, and you're good to go. I just caught that tip in an R/C mag a few days ago.

Yeah I was told by my LHS to do that and my tires gain traction better than them ballooning. I think I posted that tip and then the tip came out in the mag. Maybe my LHS read that mag too.

To let you know about the Revo tires. I checked them out at my LHS and even test drove a set on my .15 Maxx. They are larger than the Proline 40 Series and you HAVE to regear. My Maxx was slow and it didn't like the way they hooked because they barely hooked at all. If I were you I would either try shaving off every other tread on the stock Maxx tires or getting a set of Bowties or Mashers to fit your stock maxx rims. I haven't had any trouble with my Mashers on my alloy rims and they hook up great on dry packed dirt and soft loose dirt. Good luck!
