I've been hearing alot about tmaxx's sucking in comparision to a savage or revo... the 3.3 maxx cought my eye and I've wanted one for a while..:ponder2: I was just wondering if anybody here has any true horror stories or is it just hoopla

If you want a somewhat unbiased opinion, you should list this in the general nitro talk section.
I personally don't like the T-Maxx because of the weak diffs amoung other thing's.

It's not that the TMaxx is bad, the Savage is just better... Although they are in the same class of R/C, the Savage is considered an 1/8th scale truck as opposed to the 1/10th scale TMaxx. The Savage is just beefier, and has a bigger power plant.. Having had both, I would buy the Savage..

I just sold my T-Maxx and bought a Monster GT. The thing I found that you can get a T-Maxx for about the same price as other trucks, but then in order for them to be durable, you have to spend half as much as you just spent to up grade parts to keep it from or repair the stuff that is broken. If you can find a used truck with the parts already upgraded for a decent price, then you will have a decent truck. I think for the money, a new T-Maxx isn't worth it. I can't say that about the 3.3 because I don't have any experience with that one. One of the best things about the T-Maxx though is the endless aftermarket parts available.

It all depends on your plans on what to do with it, I think it makes twice the racer vs the Savage but the Revo is a better yet racer, if you are going to bash with it the Savage is the much more qualified. The TMaxx is an all around great truck but as with any R/C it has it's weakness's

If i had to do it all over, i wouldnt go the T-maxx route. After putting more than $1000 into it (heh, WAY more than that, but i think you get the picture), it is a nice truck, and would prolly out-do a stock savage, but, it cost a hell of a lot to get it that way.

imo t-maxx out perform a savage, the savage is the king of the tuff trucks. just my 2 cents, i owned a savage and a 21 maxx and 3.3maxx and a revo and lst2 and i spend most of my time driving the 3.3

The Maxx is not really a bad truck, but it does have quite a few weak points. I have a Savage SS and a waaaaaaay hopped up T-maxx, if it can even be called a maxx anymore since all but about three parts have been replaced with aftermarket parts. Now my maxx sits and collects dust while anytime I go to bash I grab the Savage, imo the Savage is a much stronger truck right out of the box. Unlike the maxx, HPI has addressed the weak points of the Savage and improved upon them, while Traxxas has not really done anything except replace one crappy mill with another, and who knows the problems the 3.3 will have, but the rest of the truck is almost the same as the very first maxx. If you are going to race there are better choices than the maxx, and if you are gonna bash there are better choices than the maxx. Maxxes are notorious money pits, which is pretty much the only reason I have kept mine, no way could I even recover 25% of what I have in to it.

i know that tons of t maxx owners have over 200 bucks just in fixing stuff. It doesn't make sense to me to have to keep fixing things all the time when you could just get a savage and be done with it all!

Well... whether it's biased or not, I agree with the majority of these guys.

On a RC track it may be a good/decent truck. But for my bashing needs, it just didn't hold up well and was underpowered.

i have a little over 2K into my maxx and i finally think its gonna be a decent basher. I think its a great little truck but i would probably buy a savage X if i were to do it all over again.

The Max isn't all that bad but wrenching on those phillip screws blows chunks.

one good thing about the new ones is that all the screws are allen head. :)

i like my maxx so far. i have had to fix it a few times just from learning mistakes, but it seems to be holding up pretty good.

thats the whole thing. My first truck is the truck i have now, my savage. I havent had to fix anything just because of leaning mistakes. A t maxx is a delicate peice of machinery. If you dont know how to wrench on a trck then dont buy a maxx cuz your gonna be fixxin stuff all the time when us savage goers are outside bashing hard!

I have 2 t-maxx's, one 2.5, one 3.3, both are better racers than the savage the 3.3 is really an eye opener(revo smokes both) and both my maxx's smoke my buddy's cen genesis (with the monster mill) but for the king of all bashers, say it together, SAVAGE. Are they that bad?? no. could traxxas do more to it? Hell yeah. as far as repairs, you hit somthing at 30-40 mph, you repair no matter what manufacturer IMAO

i think fixing it is half the fun. sure it sucks spending money on parts, but i personally like to find the limits of my machine and then make it better.

But still, if you hit it with a t maxx, the maxx will explode, the savage will have a broken sus arm and a shock tower.

Let me tell you a little story, true story. My friends brother works at one of my local hobby shops. We were over there talking to them when they said they had a surprise for us since i said a t maxx was weak and he said it wasn't cuz he has one. So they found a old savage 21 and one of the original t maxxs. Got them both up and ready with new parts if they needed them. They put each at one end of the parking lot and drove them at each other at FULL speed. When they hit the t maxx had parts flying eveywhere, wheels flying at us, motor fell out, radio box shattered and other stuff that i dont have time to expain. The savage however had a cracked bumper and the boddy ripped around a mounting holes. Thats pretty much it. After that my friend felt like junk because his own brother proved i was right!

The LHS by my house doesn't even carry the T-Maxx anymore. only part's for it. Actually I haven't seen a T-Maxx in about 3 different Hobby shop's I've been to. All I usually see is Savage, Revo and the MGT
