I have a T maxx, I'm not the best nitro tuner but i think i have a problem. the truck runs but it dies everytime i take the glow heater off of the glow plug, so i can't even get far enough into it to tune it. any help pls

I just tried that and it didnt seem to work I leaned it out until it wouldnt even run with the hot shot on it anymore. Stupid question but can a bad glowplug affect more than just starting. It looks like the hear element is all crammed up inside of the plug.

If it starts with the ignitor but dies when you take it off then the plug is bad.

It's also a sign of being too rich, which can cause the damage to the filament that you described.
It also sounds like you didn't give it enough time to warm up or 'clear out' while leaning it. Don't be expecting instant response. If you leaned it till it wouldn't run, you obviously went way too far and too fast. These little carbs require gentle tweaking, not screwing and twisting of the needles. 1/16 of a turn is often too far.

Also, it's ok to adjust the LSN and gently drive it with the heater still on the engine to help clear it out. I wouldn't leave it on there for more than a minute or so at a time, but sometimes during break-in, I've left it on that long just to help me get the tune clear enough to run them for the first tank or so.
