Hey guys. I'm sure most of you will think this is a rediculous question and I should know better, but here goes. I just purchased a t-maxx 2.5. It's under the Christmas tree at my Mom's because luckily she paid for half the truck for my Christmas, which left me with lots extra for aftermarket stuff. Anyway, the other trucks that I used to have, I just broke them in per the instructions. Here's my question:

If you were going to break in your truck, are there some special techniques you would use besides just the general instructions or directions. Do you have any special tips for me as far as the break in procedures? I will be using 20% Top Fuel and the stock glow plug for break in.

dont use the traxxas fuel.. use something that better.. i use eliminator fuel.. it is cheaper and i think it is better for tuning.. i let my truck idle for three tanks.. 1 tank of quarter throttle.... 1 tank of half throttle.. 1 tank of 3/4 throttle .. and then have fun and tune. it.. that is what i did and truck is great!!

You should use the engine manufacturer's recommended method. Typically they know what's best for their particular engines.

PS: I'm typing this on my Nintendo DS! How cool is that?

I've broken in several Traxxas engines. I always did it exactly to their instructions, and even when I normally used a different fuel, I'd get a quart of Traxxas Top Fuel for the break in.
All my engines were ALWAYS flawless and NEVER gave me trouble. I never had a problem selling them to anyone who had seen them run, and knew they were well cared for.

Alright that's what I'll do. Thanks for the input everyone so far who answered. I thought top fuel would be good for break in. I'm going to see what the other brands are that the hobby shop here in town carries. I would order my fuel from the internet, but I'd like to order one of the brands of fuel that the shop carries, so when or if I run out, I can get some locally without switching brands and having to retune just because of a temporary fuel switch. When you guys are just playing around and not in a race on the track, do you run 20% or 33% ?

I only run 20%.
Some people think that brand name fuels are better than Traxxas Top Fuel, but I've learned along the way the Traxxas engines LOVE Traxxas fuels. Now that I have an HPI, I got O'Donnels.

I used Traxxas Topfuel 33% for my last Revo and it ran like a champ. It was a used 3.3 BUT it ran beautiful mated with a MC59 hot plug. On my first 3.3 Revo, I ran 20% odonnels and then switched to traxxas fuel 20%. Performance was not hindered at all.

I personally haven't had any problems with Top Fuel, but like swarmjt said, Wildcat Eliminator is good stuff and cheaper. I've ran it in my last three motors,Traxxas .15, Sirio .18 and Nitro Star .25(HPI Savage). I just wish my lhs still sold it, that is if I was actually able to run my truck again.
Break-in like the instructions say, you'll be fine. Traxxas fuel is fine. You'll probably have to try the fuels you want then make your own conclusions. Tuning is key.
