It does if I prop the truck off the ground, but with the truck on the ground, it struggles to hit top speed and shift.

Any suggestions?

whats your engine temps? sounds like you may be alittle rich. lean it out and see if it shifts

If it revs high enough to seem strained then shifts your shift point is too high. I'm not saying it should shift immediately, but what you want is for it to accelerate to about 7/8 of the full rpm's and then shift. The reason for this is the powerband on Traxxas engines drops off at about that point.

Oh, and to adjust the shift point you take the little rubber boot on the tranny body out and turn the spur until you see metal through a little gap in the plastic. Then hold the spur and turn the wheels until you see a screw. Then use a 1.5mm allen wrench to adjust the shift point. Turning it to the left makes it shift sooner, right later.

Is this engine new? Have you gone through the break in process? Please let us know. You should not tune for performance till the break in has been done.

Does the engine sound like it's winding out when it's on the ground? It just doesn't shift? After you run it at WOT for a bit, is the slipper plate hot? (test with temp gun, not finger). If so, your slipper could just be a bit loose and when it's really shifting into second, your slipper is just slipping really badly.

Out of the 3 3.3 revo's and 2 3.3 maxx's I've seen, 2 revos and one maxx had the slipper too loose and was causing the same problem. The engine would rev, but you wouldn't hear it shift and it wouldn't pick up speed very well.

I had the same issue on my 18TM revo when I first installed the 18TM. It was a 2.5R revo, but the 18TM put out considerably more power and made the slipper slip. It acted like the truck didn't have any power, but the engine would scream. As soon as I tightened the slipper a bit, I ended up on my roof.

ENGINE/TRUCK IS NOT NEW. IT WAS GIVEN TO MY 10 YR OLD SON AS A GIFT. THE GUY WHO OWNED IT JUST DIDNT HAVE TIME FOR IT. WHEN HE GAVE IT TO HIM, ALL HE SAID WAS THAT "IT NEEDED TUNING". DIDN'T REALIZE HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE.

IN RESPONSE TO CUPOOTERLUVR - GET YOU GIVE ME MORE DETAIL ON HOW TO DO THIS OR DIRECT ME ON WHERE TO FIND DIRECTION? THIS MIGHT BE THE SOLUTION. IT WAS ALSO SUGGESTED BY SOMEONE ELSE AT A HOBBY SHOP.

I still say its probably running rich. Its alot easier to tune the carb than the tranny! You really need to know your engine temp, before playing with the tranny shift point.

And yes no all caps please.

Same Problem

Hey guys, i have a T-Maxx model 4908, and i installed traxxas's reverse kit in it, after properly tuning back to correct condition, the truck ran fine, after a few tanks, the 2nd gear shift stopped working, the truck runs at prime 220-240 temps, and hits about 30mph at high revs, but wont sift, the reverse and everything else works perfectly, any help would greatly be appreciated
Thanks
