Well we just recently picked up a used T-maxx 2.5 that is basically all stock besides a couple alluminum parts here and there in the suspension. We are having a problem with it running. When we get it started it sounds like it starts to whine coming from the transmission area then it sounds like something clicks then shuts off. So far the longest i have gotten it to run has been about 3 minutes then it just shut off. It has also been a pain to get running at times. I know i still have a little tuning to do to the motor but don't know why it is just shutting off after i get it running. If anybody has any ideas that would be great.

Thanks,
Ben

Hows the compression? If thats all you can get it to run and its whining and ticking then cutting off i would pull the motor and do a full tear down to see if the bearing are good and that everthing is like it should be inside the motor. If it runs and warms up then its hard to start thats usually a sign of the piston sleeve losing its pinch.

Ok i will look at that tonight. How hard and how far down should i tear the motor? Biggest thing i have ever done was just removing a motor from the chassis? Where are all the bearings at on the motor?

You can check youtube out on how to do a tear down there are some very good intructional videos on there doesn't have to be a video of the 2.5 either they are all basically the same. But i would personally tear it down completely bc your gonna want to inspect everything. But at the least i would take it out and pull the head and backplate off. Look for any metal shavings or grinding when you spin the crank over my hand with the backplate and head off. B4 you take the plate off and head tho check the compression with it off the car. Just spin the flywheel counter clockwise if your looking at it straight on. There should be a fair amount of force if there is barely any the sleeve is shot
