T Maxx 2.5 Brake

Is it just me or is the brake on the t maxx rubbish. I bought a new brake disc just the standard one but thought it should be enough to lock the wheels but its not. The brake does slow it down but from top speed it takes 50 feet to stop. I have had it adjust so that i have brake on the minute the throttle is realesed but it still wont stop it in any great hurry. I have checked the brake mechanism and linkage and it all operated fine. I think its just poor hardware myself but if i am wrong then please put me right.

I have been looking at the brakes on the 33 and they seem much better the shoes also have riction matarial on them unlike the 25 is it possible to fit the 33 brakes disc and shoes on a 2.5 or is the operating of the brake system different.

Not sure if it will fit, but a better servo will make the brakes work. I ran a maxx for a few years. I ran a futaba S3305 for t/b duties and it would lock them up. Not a real pricey servo, has considerable more torque than the stock one.

You just don't have enough tension on them. Replace the spring with a length of silicone fuel tubing. You'll get a much better 'grab' when you hit the brakes.
Let us know if that worked. The pic is the brake setup on a Savage, but your's would be about the same.
If it grabs TOO hard, cut the silicone shorter and keep the spring in place.

Thanks rolex but i have already done that. Has not done the trick it just went from doing nothing to gradually slowing down. I shall maybe try a longer lengh just incase. Should the shoes on my t maxx have any friction matarial (.25) or is that just the .33 brake shoes.

Just the 3.3 maxx, not the 2.5 maxx has those composite shoes. 2.5 maxx has metal shoes and composite disk.

Try instaling a pastic washer between the brake rod and the tubing. That way you have a more of a true brake feel. Also try reducing the brake dead band between teh two. If you have a big gap between then your servo may ot be able to apply full brakes. Try that first.

You can also extend the rod through the brake post so you get maximum leverage out of it. The rod with a hoop in it that your linkage goes through.

Disconnect the control arm from the servo, and while rolling the car by hand, pull the linkage to see how well it brakes. At that point, you'll know that they work well and it's just a matter of making the right mechanical adjustment.
Look at the linkages and see what can be adjusted to give more pressure on the pads.
If you are using a computer radio, center the servo and adjust your end points AFTER making your mechanical adjustments.

My radio gear is just the traxxas stock gear. I have tried most of what has been said but will have another go. I am thiunking it could be time to change the servo because it is always making lots of nose when stood motionless. And when it is at the end of its travel it makes lots of clicking noise.

That your problem, the servo is stripped. I alway had good luck with Maxx brakes, maybe I was just lucky.

I never changed out the stock brakes on mine. Even when I used the stock radio I could almost lock the brakes.
I agree with SMaxxin, it sure sounds like your servo is stripped and won't give you enough pressure.

Have just ordered a high torque high speed servo with alloy gears and horn. Its nothings fancy but does have 16kg torque so if that can't lock the wheels then nothing will. did have a look at the futaba one mentioned near the start of this thread but it was getting on £70.00 which is around about $110.00. Didnt want to spend that much money on a servo i could have a 33 engine in my truck for that.

If you replace that servo with a Traxxas steering servo, you shouldn't have any more problems with it. There's no need to spend a lot on a high torque servo for throttle/brake. Believe it or not, the Traxxas steering servo is pretty tough and not expensive.
Since you have already ordered another, you might want to consider using it for your steering, and move the Traxxas one to the throttle.

Wow! The S3305 is only a $35 servo! Hell of a mark up if what your paying is near $111!

I was thinking about using this servo for my steering. And i could not beleive the price of that futaba servo. i have found one on ebay for £35.00 but the one i ordered was only £6.00 from ebay i can't remeber the make but will post it if its a good quality servo. It boasted 16kg torque at 4.8 volts and will run upto 7.2 volts which if i am right will increase the torque even more and its all metal gears too. Had to be worth a try at half the price of the stock one.
