Looking for a good 4wd truck. T-max from what I hear is a great truck. Any testimonials or advice .

Unless you have alota extra dough, buy a savage. The t-maxx is a great truck after you completely rebuild it with aftermarket parts. The savage is alot tuffer outa the box.

I agree w/ joneser4u. The stock Maxx definitely needs upgrades right out of the box. You would be better off getting something else.

If you're into doing alot of hop-ups, then you can make a Maxx pretty sweet. If not, then shop around for something else.

Later...:mex:

Get a savage if u are a noob without much money. get a t-maxx if you arent a noob and have a job and get a pretty good cash flow...

i would get a savage, i got one and man did this thing just kick ass :contract:

not neccesarily
the t-maxx is better preformance wise, but will break much easier...

i would definately NOT get a Maxx if you do not intend on hopping it up. I was breaking parts within 10 minutes after my break in

It all depends on what you plan to do with it. My Tmaxx is 2 years old, and I broke the fuel tank a couple of weeks ago by driving it under a parked bike when I didn't have the body on. 2 days ago, I lost a rear drive shaft. That's all that has ever broken.
I DON'T jump with it, I just run at the track. It's got quite a few upgrades, but not because of breakage, just for performance and handling for what I do with it.

I've had a Savage, I have a well modified Tmaxx, I have a Monster GT.
My advise is the Savage.
Its a very tough Truck.

Other than a runaway incident that broke my front skidplate, and bulkhead I haven't broke anything, and I've done coutless cartwheels, landings on the roof, and smacking trees with my maxx. The only thing I would recomend right off the bat is an aftermarket cooling head, and read up on break-in proceedures in this forum. Don't listen to Traxxas! Infact thow thee DVD away befor watching it. It will warp your mind. LOL!!!!!!!

The only thing thats has ever broke on my T-Maxx was my front skid plate (The stock one) Other than that NOTHING has broke. I know people are going to respond "Your not driving hard enough" but I drive PLEANTY hard and have done some preatty insane poop with my maxx and its been durable as hell. Everything n my truck is stock except for the Polished aluminum skid plates and bumpers. I recommend Tmaxx's to anyone who wants to get in this sport. Theres a reason why its the top selling truck. Go with that.
(I'm not taking anything away from Savages, but My Tmaxx has been the poop, so Thats what I'm stickin with.)

If you like things with "MORE POWER" in your normal day to day life, I would suggest getting something that starts out with a 21 in it. The maxx is a good truck for a specific crowd, I have one, but after a lot of $ it now has a 21. The savage starts out with a 21 and a drivetrain that can handle more. The associated MGT seems to be a good one to get and the new losi LST is probably going to be a good racer (to early to tell and to rich for my blood).

Thought this posted but I guess not...lets try this again.

Money is not an issue, time is. With a demanding job and a baby at home time is precious. The less time I spend working on the truck the better. I'm leaning towards a T-Max but the feedback had been mixed. I find it funny how the consensus on a T-max forum is ...buy a savage. Now I am completely confused. If I can find a hopped up T-max that would be even better. Just gas and go...Savage or Max that is the question.

I have a maxx, and I run the dogs out of it. I also spend tons of time maintaining it.

If you get a maxx you will absolutely not be satisifed unless you get.

#1 a really hot fast .18
#2 A .21 (run of the mill will work)

They make maxx big block converions for a reason.

This subject has been hashed over for quite some time. If you like to spend time and money building and rebuilding get the maxx.

If you just want to grab the nitro, run it bash it, and store it. I believe the maxx is for you.

I just bought a savage (on it's way here). The main reason it's nickel and diming me to death. Everytime I take it out something is just a little off an needs to be fixed.

Everyone I ask is saying "maxx for speed and handling" "savage for durability"

The things is... as stated above..

The maxx isn't made for a big block, it's light and nimble. To get the speed and power you want, you will have to upgrade. tranny chassis skids etc. You can buy one that's already done up, but what didn't they do? Did they get tired of too much power and fixing? Did they leave a step out? Is the power just going to break the next weak link, and you have to upgrade again?

For a maxx you need to immediately, or soon replace these parts if you want to bash.
Shocks!
Alumium bulk heads.
strong skids front and back, and center.
Stiffen the chassis with alum braces.
RPM shock tower front, and alum shock tower rear.
new air filter
Alum bulkeads.
Possible new hinge pins.
If your going above .18
New spur/slipper
Stronger, or shimmed diffs.
Stronger steering servo.
CVD's instead of stock sliders.
possibly new tranny gears.
ore as you break/find weak spots

The Savage, it's meant for a big block off the git go. This means that the tranny and drive train can handle the engine in it. You won't have to worry about what's been done and what was forgotten or not upgraded for the big block. I haven't heard a gripe about he savage being able to handle the power. the only weak sptot I hear that's bad is the diffs, and the stock wheels.

To take the savage out and be dependable you only really need new wheels/dogbones/cvd's, and shimmed diffs. (somone correct me if I missed something

You will find most people getting rid of their hopped up maxxes want one of two things #1 a savage #2 a buggy. My guess is because both are more durable.

Nitro rigs are tough enuough to keep going withut having to worry about what's going to breka next.

Me, I'm tired of wrenching. I want to go have fun. I can't seem to run the maxx for more than 2-3 tanks without having to fix something, adjust something, or replace something.

Who is it? Ahh Shorty, he takes his savage to the concrete skate park. I shiver and think no way when I see him do this to his savage, my maxx would never make it. Here's a link to his vid

if moneys not a issue get a Ofna Titan.. duel .26's. I've never heard anything about them cuz there $700 and everyone I know is to broke to buy it..lol But you should get it then u can tell me the pros and cons about it! :lick:

Well, m savage just arrived in the mail. It's a savage .21 mostly all stock. All I have to say is friggen wow! My wife's first comments were it looks a lot better than the maxx for sure.

The savage looks a bit harder to work on, but 100% more durable.. we'll find out this evening whnen it gets all put back together.

lykan,

Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated. I think that a savage will be my next purchase. Which one ?? SS .21 or 25

I put over a grand into my t-maxx in upgrades alone. The thing was nearly bulltproof after that. My savage only had the dogbones replaced and the thing never broke after that and I put her thought hell.

Well from what I hear there are not too many differences. If money is not an issue pick up the savage 25.

You say time is an issue, the SS needs to be built. If you dont want to wrench on it for a day or two before you play, don;t buy the SS. The SS however will give you intimate knowledge so when and if it brak, you'll be able to fix it quicker, and you will have all the tools. The SS is more expensive in the end, you need to buy a radio for it.

I know I can get one at the local hobby shop for 425(Savage 25) out the door. You will need fuel, glow starter and batteries.

The SS runs about 380

The savage 21 (used ready to run) can be had for anywhere form $200 to $350

If picking up a savage 21 for a 100 to 150 cheaper sounds attractive to you go for it. There are not too many differences besides the motor.

My suggestion Look around for a used savage with very little time on it, one that comes with all the accessories. Look for someone getting out of the hobby, that will throw in all his nitro accessories. Little things REALLY REALLY add up in this hobby you can buy a few $10-$15 parts and the nexxt thing you know you got a grand into one vehicle. Your better off to get one with little use, and all those $10-$15 goodies with it.

I picked up my savage 21 for $240 shipped. It needed a servo. But... it came with everything I needed minus fuel and batteries if that gives you any indication. Iv'e spent an hour or so going over my savage today. I hve to say I am very impressed at it's build vs the t-maxx. No doubt a stronger rig.

I got the same kind of deal on my maxx (thanks ImBroken), a lot of the little add ons were installed, and he threw in a bunch of extra stuff :D

I don't think I will ever buy a retail nitro again. There are just too many good people wanting out of the hobby who want to pass on a good deal to somone who will enjoy it.
