I'm in the middle of doing a WideMaxx conversion for my son's Emaxx. These freaken shock screws and a few others are killing me. Do they make a Hex screw kit or is there any tips on how to deal with these damn phillips screws? That is the only freaken thing I hate about the T/E Maxxs

Ray

Yeah, those screws suck! take them all out and throw them away! Then get a complete kit of hex head screws. There are several companies making complete kits, USSF (I hated them, sloppy driver fit), RC Screwz (used in my pcr with no problems at all, nice set), Hex Screws (I have not used them, but I hear nothing but good about them). And while you are at it, pick up a good quality set of hex drivers.

Ya I bought a decent set of hex drivers and nut drivers to work on the Revo with. It's night and day working on the Revo which has Hex compared to the phillips Maxx. I'll look into a set for damn sure...this is on my last nerve lol I think it's taken me an hour to do the front arms of the widemaxx conv so far :whip:

Hey thanks

Do you know by chance if either of those kits come with shock mounting screws? Thats the screw I'm having the most issue with and non of these kits mentions shock screws.

Thanks again
Ray

I got a set of Racers edge from RushRc for my savy and I like them alot. They'll strip my driver before I strip the nut..lol..

I still use the stock garbage screws on my brushless E-Maxx,a major pain in the back to take out.And I use some quality screwdrivers with tips that bite in the grove.Stil, some get damaged.

Thanks for the links to the hex sets. :hi:

No they don't, you're talking about the shoulder screws that go through the top shock mount right?

Ray, I don't think they come with those screw NC Nitro references, but what I did on my brother's Widemaxx conversion, because I had the exact same problem, is I got a set of hex screws and for the shocks I put one of those plastic bushings I found on a parts tree (I believe it was for my HPI MT) on the screws and it worked just fine. I'm fairly sure you can find those little bushings anywhere.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Yes sir, thats the punks giving me hell!

I ran them through without the shock to maybe some how loosing up the new shock tower holes but no luck. I've just about destroyed the screws trying to install the shocks.

Try www.McMaster.com
They will have just about any screw your looking for.. Unfortunately, you'll most likely have to buy 100pcs. I just put them aside in a nice screw case for future builds.. They sell some high quality screws.... Just a thought..

If I remember correctly, it's been a long time since I used phillips screws, you need to use a flat tip #1 phillips screwdriver to have any luck getting those screws in and out without tearing them up. I may still have some of those left in the garage but I'll have to check, if I do you can have them if you still want to try using some of those until you get something better.

What I did with my original stock towers on my maxx was to get some 3x50mm hex screws, drill out the shocktower, just drill a large enough hole through the tower for the 3x50mm screws to pass completely through the tower where the shoulder bolts screw in to it, and then use a 3mm locknut and a washer on one side. This also allows you to remove the shocks without removing the gas tank if you put the nut side towards the tank.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Works good?

Hey thanks NCN :hi:

Now would buying a set of aluminum shock towers be my best bet plus a screw kit? Or should I just drill the stockers out and use screws and nuts? I'm also going to look into some flat tip screw drivers just incase I run across something like this again.

Sorry to be a bother about this.

Thanks for the advice on screws, I am tired of switching between metric and standard hex screws when using aftermarket parts. What do i do?

ImBroken gave the best tip for screws (IMO)...you know you'll loose em and it's better to have more than not have what you need....make a list of screw sizes from your Manual's exploded view and order a bunch from McMaster...they have really high quality screws....I've had bad luck w/ RC screwz myself....Tony's Screws are what I hear everyone recommending at teh track.....
