*********** This is not in reference to RcNitroTalk!!! **************

When did the word "crap" become a swear?

It would be nice if forums would list what is considered by them to be a swear vs not being a swear... nothing like having warning points for stupid reasons.

I peruse a few other forums and enjoy them as much as this one, but considering the word "crap" a swear really aggrivates me.

I wonder if I can say "piss"... it's in the bible... Mamby pamby bastards...

Sorry for the rant.

My view is: if they can say it on broadcast tv, it's not a swear.
Even racy, but not a swear.

There's 7 "deadly sins" (see George Carlin's best of) but I really think some people get too bent out of shape a little too easy. I mean common their only words and who determined them to be bad. Why is crap bad and why is dog ok? Ahh, never mind, I'm with you on this. BTW, was it the Traxxas Nazi's? I'd like to club that fiddlesticker Misbehavin over the head sometime!

Well, I have heard a great deal of b!tch, a$$, pu$$y, type words on network television in the not so distant past. Yet, say it in a public (work, school, etc) forum and you're hung!!! Try it on your other site and see what happens... I say :thefinger: em'

Here its all about the context and frequency.

Ill second that for eddy,I'm a proving user and now a very limited user for that.

how about if they dont censor it on south park then its not a swear. if you dont know south park is a t.v show on comedy cental that they give at 10:30 wedesday

Personally, I try to keep my language on forums at the same level as I do when I talk with my kids (6 and 9) in the room. I may not consider crap a swear, but I do try and not say it in front of my kids. It does not sound good when they say it. As Ed stated, it is all in the context and frequency.

I agree with most of you guys. It isn't like I drop F bombs in every sentence or even any conversations... but "crap"??? I use that all the time.

Yes.

Your a funny guy! That's what I like about this place. It's understood that this is an open place to be and we are only governed when needed.

BTW, this was the statement I had made in the middle of a 3 paragraph post about waterproofing and winter bashing:

"I dumped the optidrive (it's in a parts box now) because I didn't want more electrical crap to deal with for waterproofing. "

haha.

Eddy said it best, it is all about the context and frequency. I'm glad you understand "that this is an open place to be and we are only governed when needed". That's exactly what we want people to see this place as, that and it makes it far much easier to maintain the site too :D

Try watching Fox.. man some of them sitcoms say stuff that just leaves me in Ah that I would have NEVER gotten away with on the radio. I know my nephew watches alot of tv and I can just tell by his vocab, which shows he watches.. I dont have a prob with people swearing as long as there not trying to do it, or every other word is the F bomb. Plus there certain places for certain words. Id talk a lil different out bashing or at home than I would at church, at a funeral or around elders, ya know? But yeah I agree some words catch such a bad rap when worse words get ignored. (Like how they can say Bitch on Tv, but not poop)

They do say "poop" now... It started with ER when Dr. Green lost function of his motor controls because of a brain tumor. It was a very emotional and upsetting scene as he was trying to get out of bed, he fell to the floor and yelled it.

Then I think I remember it being used in NYPD Blue shortly thereafter. They say "jack ass", "peepee" and a few others that surprise me...

But I was raised in a pentecostal household... which roughly translates to strict baptist. My dad was a ordained reverend...

Now it just erks me when CRAP like this happens...

I remember hearing ASS for the first time on tv..lol.. poop took my breath away..lol.. Again I'm not some swear word geek, it just seemed weird to hear it on Tv.. It should be up to pretty much anything now cept the F word huh?? I dont know the name of the show, again its on Fox, its a irish dude, his 2 sons (Ones from malcom in the middle) has a daughter (shes dating a balck dude) and his wife (milf) anyway, they must have said "Blow J**" about a dozen times. (not sure why I edited on here since its on tv..lol) and that was the most recent one that caught my attention.

My vocab greatly depends on whom I am speaking w/.....if I visit certain friends and speak properly (like my poppy done learnt me too) I'd get some seriously interesting looks....but once I was in a meeting w/ some higher up Engineers from the FAA and I said "true" instead of the cursory yes or other word of agreement...instead I say True.....ever seen 10 60+y/o men all look at you like you spoke martian????
Yeah, I lost a lil credibility w/ some of my peers but I got it back by proving other stuff for them....other than at work I pretty much swear like a sailor though.....I'm guilty....
