RC Driving Style
Hey guys.. I need help.. not to brite on shocks and springs.. I rebuilt my T-maxx 2.5 with basically all Hop ups Mostly titanium and aluminum... I replaced the stock shock with Trax Aluminum shocks and filled them with the oil that came with the package and the red springs that were on the shocks.. but my truck just kinda sits low. and If I push down on it it doesn't come back up... there is no bounce to it at all? ... I know it's going to be a combo of a different spring color and oil weight but I don't know which.... Help..
 
did you put enough oil in and make sure you didn have alot of air in them anlso you might want to try some stronger springs like trinity blue or black
 
WHile the stock springs are weak, I'd bet you need to bleed your shocks a little better. Also you can add a spacer or two in each shock.
 
so how do the colors go... like from softest to hardest...? I will try the blue..
I did fill them to the specs...2/3 then ran the air out by moving the shaft up and down without breaking the surface.. then added oil to the top minus like 1-2 mm.... then capped.. I even added spacers to the shock to see if that would help.. it did a very little bit...

I also have them in the middle spot on the bottom and outside spot on top.. (In case that matters)
 
Each company has their own color scheme. Trinity blues are medium to heavy. Trinity black are the crem de la crem heavy as a dump truck springs, my personal favorites!
 
I'll get them both and experiment .. and I will also try rebleeding them .. Thanks guys.. It's sunny and bright out .. I'm heading out to do some bashing.... Thanks.
 
i hear ya EP I'm also waiting for some part to come up to my doorstep its torture my neigbor was running his and i wanted so much to break mine out but i need some dam parts

I got htese springs from work that I dont even need shock oil. Major rebound, real good for on the street but when bashing it bounces you around but still gets you over anything.
 
Hey.. I did some pretty good bashing... and not one break..!!!!!
The shocks held up..... but they sway the truck when I hit the brakes or turn hard... should that happen... also my big problem now and the reason I came home is I was running just fine.. power, blue smoke trail.. good idle... but then the motor stopped (After I flipped her pretty hard and it took me a couple of secs 20-30 to get to her and straighten her out).... so I tried restarting but it wouldn't start... so I checked my starter (Figuring I would see the motor light not come on) but instead the motor tried to turn but the glow plug light would not come on... SO I changed glow plugs and tried again.. same thing... I then charged my starter battery... same thing I then changed starters.. same thing.. any ideas... I don't have a temp gun so I don't know how hot she was running... she was kicking ass though... Help...

Sorry.. I just read the post before my post.. and you guys give some good advice.. I do see a cut in my glow plug wire but it is really small do you think that could be causing it?
My LHS is closed so. I won't be able to get a new wire till tomorrow.... argh!!!!!!!!!!! I have a glow plug igniter coming with my Cen CT4S in a couple of days so I'll start carrying that around as well... Thanks.
 
since you said you had a hard roll over and the glow light wont come on your plug wire is mostlikly damaged. You could check for damage and maybe replace it but i reccomend you just go out and get a glow ignitor stick
 
I use a combination of Trinity black & blue springs. (six blue with two black.) I've got 50wt oil in Associated shocks and it's a great bashing setup.

What this setup doesn't do well is drive over rough terrain. The suspension doesn't articulate enough and if I'm traveling at any rate of speed but slow I'm all over the road doing more correcting than steering.

Put an ohm-meter on that blue plug wire. It should be zero resistance. Traxxas was nice enough to connect that to the harness with a bullet connector so it's replaceable. If you want to keep using the EZ-start to light the plug there's push-and-turn plug connectors that are a lot easier to work with than the coiled-spring connector they give you.

I want somewhere in the middle.. Bashing hardness but able to speed over some grass and dirt and not lose control.. maybe just the eight blues will do the trick. Thanks.
 
wdavidhicks stole my thunder. I run almost the same set up. Six Blues, two blacks, 65wt silicone in Associated shocks. Wonder whom is copying whom.

The stock red springs are just about the weakest springs out there. When you added all that metal to your truck, you upped the weight. That makes those crap springs perform even worse. Go with the Trinity Blues and Blacks. Go with a slightly heavier than stock oil (>40wt works great).
 
Yes, and Sky is correct. He told me to do that.

Henceforth, we shall refer to six blues and two blacks on Associateds with a viscosity near fifty as "The Sky Setup".
 
Hey Guys.. I did change the suspension.. and would love to tell ya if it works great or not. but my damm truck wont start.. no glow plug light on my starter... I changed the glow plug wire (the extension) but it still doesn't light... ARGH!!! Could the wire to the starter itself be broken??? I don't see any evident physical damage... ?
I will get a glow plug igniter but I was just curious!!!
 
Yes, the wire could be damaged. If you did not properly install the ground wire on the engine (if you recently played with your engine and removed it), the light will not come on, nor will the thing work. But have you checked the obvious? Does the glo-plug even work or do you need a new one.

Great plan for getting the separate glo-ignitor. It will solve a ton of problems in the starting area.
 
I had the truck running for a couple of days since I reset the engine.. so I don't think it could be a ground wire..... I guess I'm off in the morning to get a glow plug igniter..... argh!!!!
