I have good news, i went to my hobby shop and they had a sport maxx , they let me drive it, and i went home to think about if i wanted to buy it or not.... then i went back the next day to put my name on it until saturday , and it had already been sold earlier that day (dam!) . They told me they were calling today to get another one in for me, which is good, so i put 20 bucks down on it.
HERE is the really good news, the store tech and i were talking about our supernitros. because he had told me a few days before that he had put a .21 engine in a few of them and that they haul major Arse. and doesn't STRIP GEARS AT ALL ~
luckily that day, he had also brought his SN with him to the shop ... and i must say
SOOOOOOOO , this satrurday i am going up to the shop, supernitro in hand, and leaving it there for about an hour or 2 depending on how busy he is that day. into my supernitro will be going ...

1 - OFNA Hyper 21 engine (not 8 port,,, i dont need all that power)
2 - 2 speed tranny w/ race clutch
3 - one way front diff.
4 - new brake setup
5 - venom failsafe
6 - venom on board tem guage
7- HPI super sticky tires
8 - chrome mesh style rims
9 - custom painted dodge viper body

ill probably do a lot of these things myself, like the easy stuff such as , failsafe , temp , tires rims body and diff. but while its there hes just gonna basically do steps 1-4. ill keep you all posted on how it goes.

lets see some pics, supernitro, when its done!!! that was one thing I've always thought, that the supernitro is almost a 1/8 scale size, yet only used a weak .15 with a .21 it should really have the power that it needs. good luck, and i hope that it turns out well. hope u have a starter box, because those .21's jus SUCK to pull start! lol

eh...i'd rather do everything myself....but hey

what's this onboard temp gauge? got a website? how much they run?

uve never seen one before kwong? its pretty kewl. on my list to get this week at my LHS. its a little square box, with an LCD readout, about half the size of your receiver, and it has a small metal string attached to it, that loops around the cooling head of the engine. my LHS sells them for about 65.00. not sure where u can see it online, but try tower, if thats a no-go, they did a review on it a few months ago in RCNitro mag.

I pullstart my .21. The hardest part is getting the engine to turn over once. After you get some momentum, it turns over pretty easy. I put my knee on the tire next to the engine and give a good yank. It fires up on the first pull almost everytime. All in the tuning I guess. :p

never had any blisters from my nitros... :x

:microwave <-- thats where you can put pull starters as far as I'm concerned. Man i am so glad i have a starter box. lol.

you can get the venom racing temps on ebay or look up venomracing on line i got mine for 33.00 on ebay

I need a temp gun so bad...I think this summer i'll start racing...maybe...either way, i need a temp gun, especially since i'm running a nova

if u get a temp gun, kwong - make sure its the one with the laser, not the one with the light. the one with the light sux azz! u cannot tell the diff by looking at them, so either ask, or check the price, the laser model will be about 20.00 more. i got mine from snap-on for 90.00

Get an IR temp gun. I.R. is Infra Red.

I would have loved to put all those hop-ups on myself!!!! You are really missing out on a lot of experience by having the LHS do the work for you. What happens when you have a problem with the engine and you dont know that much because you didnt install it and break it in? Even when my friends buy hop-ups I ask can i install those for you? I love the tinkering part of the hobby as much as I like to drive!

I guess no one noticed the foilage in my sig:ninja: :jester:

Yeah, I take great pride in working on my own car. I can't imagine letting someone work on my car. Best thing about working on it yourself is that if something goes wrong cuz you put it together wrong, it's on you and no one else...i'd hate to have someone fix my car only to have it break again because they don't know how to work on it.

humboldt - they are both IR, but one actually shoots a visable beam, like a laser pointer. the other one sux, and is usually more than 20 degrees off, whichs can destroy an engine

wow I didnt know that!!!! I have the one without the light but I tested mine against that rayovec expensive one at the LHS and the were only 2-3 difference all the time.

did u test it on an rc engine, or just on anything non-squior? the one with out the laser gives a broad area temp, so it can be reading the temp at the glowplug, or the temp of the head, or the temp of 1 cooling fin. u never really know. we have checked both of them at the track.. the only perfect way for the one u have is to take several diff measurments, and then average them out

wow, look at the turn this thread took . Kwong, i would do it myself , but i dont know how to mount the engine, and i dont want to cut stuff, i dont have tools to cut aluminum that is that small. so i said screw it, hes doing it for free anyway.

man if he was doing it for free, i would let someone else do it too. i always get nervous trying radical things to my very expensive rc cars.

i cannot wait to see it, when will it be done?

if u get some extra cash, test out the laser version - u will LOVE it!, humboldt

I got the temp gun from radioshack the fellows around here like to suggest. It was like $80 or something.

I always take my temp right at the glow plug. The glow plug reading is always higher and I figure the higher one is correct. I can see getting a false low reading off a fin or something, but getting a false high reading? not possible.... unless you missed the glow plug and accidently aimed it at the sun... whoops... hate it when I do that :x

Also I too like to do my own wrenching. The SuperNitro is a .21 conversion on a SportMaxx or something? I haven't seen the .21 conversion yet, but I'm sure I could pull off cutting metal if needed. Dremel pwns you!
