I've been thinking of fabing up some ridiculously long TVPs just for the hell of it. i just want to know if you guys think it will stress the drivetrain too much. if so can i just buy a stronger motor? thanx.

I don't see how longer TVPs would stress the drivetrain, as long as you add a longer rear-center drive shaft to match. The only thing it will affect is your turning radius.

:whhooo: Two and a half feet?!?!?! That would be one Savage Limo!

All kidding aside, that would be pretty cool. The only issue is the rear-center drive shaft; you have to make sure that is pretty strong.

lol, do me a set too. That'd fkn rock. wonder if she'd be able to sit up on her ass though. I'm contemplating the XL TVP's

yeah sounds good mate!! post pics :D

might even have to just make it RWD if you can't find / make a driveshaft, but on something that long I imagine it would be pretty stable so RWD might suffice!

real quick draw up.

i will. no use getting a custom driveshaft machined. just have to make a really long steering shaft

Here is info from tower hobbies about the Savage X chassis.

FEATURES: Chassis: Rigid 6061-series aluminum TVP (twin vertical plate) 0.098"
(2.5mm) thick, lower center of gravity design drops engine, center
gearbox and radio equipment 0.20" (5mm) lower than Savage .25

And the savage XL
FEATURES: Chassis: Rigid 6061-series aluminum TVP (twin vertical plate) 0.12"
(3mm) thick

Pretty sure that's the correct info.
I got it from tower hobbies if you need to know more, or just want to check what I told you it was under the Savage X and Savage XL trucks I believe.

Sounds like an awesome project!
Keep us posted!

i remember some guy built a savage based drag car, used the trans and rear of a savage and stretched the tvps out with some small wheels in the front... i dont remember if he ever finished it

That was in RC Car Action. I'm at school right now so can't look it up but he had an Axial .32 in it and it was geared so high it couldn't move.

You could gear it really high and put in the AE .50 that's in the new MGT. That would turn it into a drag racer for sure.

hey guys. listen, what should i do about the steering. my original plan was to have the radiobox and everything i the back but i forgot about the servosaver and other post thingy. also if want it to wheelie wouldnt it strain to pull up 2 1/2 feet of savage??

Servo linkage shouldn't be all that hard; just get some threaded rod and make a longer turnbuckle. Worst case, you can contact http://eastendmachining.com/ and see if they'd be willing to make a tie rod for you (I'm more than sure they would, since it's a simple cut to length and thread the ends job).

i have something in mind. i need to find the right side x tvp so i can cut that and see exactly where i need to stretch. i think I'm going to get them laser cut.
