  1. Bashing
me and a buddy just went in together for a Slayer 3.3(not the pro). i followed the break in to a T and were running it a bit rich since it had got up to 290* and read the max temp should only be 275* so we richened it and it stays around 235*-245*. we have been bashing all week and already put a gallon of 20% top fuel through it. starting yesterday we ran into a problem. after priming it struggles to start and as soon as i let off the button it dies with a clicking noise. if i give it throttle and hold it it sputters a little bit and then steadies out as its loaded from the clutch starting to grab. even after it gets over 200* it still dies with a click and the idle surges if it manages to keep running. its been cooler so i have richened it a bit with no change so i tried leaning it and persists. any input or advice would be greatly appreciated

Turn your idle screw in about an 1/8th of a turn and see what happeneds there.

If you dont want to mess with the idle screw, you can first try giving your servo some positive throttle trim from your transmitter.
If that solves the problem, then you do need to adjust your idle screw.

If it were running with no problem, then ran crappy out of the blue, id try and replace the glow plug before doing anything else. Especially if it were the same one you used for break in.

+1 on the glow plug. Also look in the carb and see that gap in the throttle is no more than 1mm (or the thickness of a credit card). Reset the needles to back to the factory settings. When running, your temps should be between 250 and 270 on the Traxxas 3.3.

the carb is open just a hair over 1mm and the plug from break in was toasted so we was replaced with another medium super duty. i reset the needles to 2 turns out for the LSN and just under 4 on the HSN and it still did it. i noticed the servo was acting up however and then i lost all throttle/brake control. new batts in everything. i took the servo apart and the 2 outermost wires melted and were no longer connected on the bored o.0 any ideas to this? were going to replace both the steering and throttle servos with waterproof ones but would the bad servo contribute with the problem?

id say while its not running. new plug and seal the engine... I've had engines that were running well before sealing them and the difference is still obvious.
A return spring on the throttle is always a good thing aswell cos it aint funny when wires break at full throttle!!

You should also run a 3232X glow plug in a 3.3. My Revo 3.3 doesn't run right with a cooler plug than that. I feel that the servo is a different problem, probably a faulty servo.

i think I'm gonna talk to him about sealing it up, i have a tube of high temp RTV thats begging to be used for something. as for the return spring there is already one on it from the box so thats covered. i re-soldered the wires on the servo and that took care of it but this weekend I'm gettin waterproof everything if i can. how much does the 3232X plug cost at your LHS? also smkynutz, what temps does your Revo usually run???

She runs right around 250-270. Had alot of trouble keeping temps down in summer, had to cut the windshield out. If i remember right , the 3232X in like 6-7 bux at my hobby shop. Just checked amain, and they're only 4.89. It dosent have to be the 3232x, but it has to be hotter than Traxxas's medium. Try a McCoy MC59 power plug, that's what i picked up this weekend, and am having great luck with them.

well servos are in and working fine, really snappy steering compared to stock. idk if it was just the weather changing or something but without changing the tune too much it all came around. wheelies and all, temp is stayin around 260-270. bashin in the dirt without much airflow will get her up to 280-290 but as soon as you straighten it out they drop right down. ill definately try the other plug. thanks guys
