Okay first off, to sum things up, I got started in this hobby with two no name brand nitro's that my LHS doesn't have parts for. Yes you could say its a hard lesson to learn getting into this hobby but hey, the fun hasn't stopped yet though the nitro's have due to dire need of repair and the right time and conditions to run them.

So now this is why I'm posting here. My LHS does have Traxxas and Duratrax. They do have other name brands but not on the shelf like the two I named.
I have wanting to try an electric rc and I have narrowed it down to the Traxxas Slash 1:10 scale or the Duratrax Vendeta 1:18 scale. I see the advantages and disadvatages of both.
So I'm just wondering what you all think would be the better choice. :\

I know there are several Slash owners on here who seem to be happy with that rig. I'm not familiar with the Duratrax rig. I think the 1/18 scale rigs are cool and I plan on getting one in the future, but I will first want to get a 1/10 scale electric. (I have a 1/8 and 1/10 nitro trucks). No particular reason for wanting a 1/10 scale electric before the 1/18, just my preference and I think the bigger rigs are a little easier to work on.

I know the Slash will have parts readily available, either at the LHS or on-line. Sometimes the 'name brand' rigs are a little more expensive, but having the parts when you need them is usually worth the extra cost...IMO.

You will have more options for where you are able to run your rig if you go with the Slash since it is 10th scale.

It is just as happy on-road as off. Even with the the stock tires.

Aside from my ERevo, the Slash is one of the best RC purchases I have made in a long time.

I have both the Vendetta and Slash and I would go with the Slash. I have about $600 wrapped up in the Vendetta and my stock Slash is an all around better basher and racer at 1/3 the price.

Well it looks like the slash will be the next purchase. The reason I was thinking about a 1:18 scale was the fact I could run inside with no major issues but yes, the slash seems to be the better buy. Even one of the guys at my LHS told me he just doesn't like traxxas for a lot of reasons but even he wants to buy a slash.
So as soon as I can get my wife to let me shell out the $213.00 I'll be a proud owner. :p:

BTW, what is the average run time on a Slash after a full charge?

It all depends on which battery you purchase. The higher capacity the higher the run time. I get about 20 minutes out of an Orion Platinum 4800mah lipo pack. Lipos will run slightly longer than nimh packs with the same capacity. Unless you are experienced with lipos, get a LVC (low voltage cutoff) if you decide to go the lipo route.

So the battery that comes with the slash is about 15 minutes?

Okay, I need to bump this back up. You all know that if I get the slash I will pretty much be jonsing to add a BL system in it. Well, I have looked at the prices of BL systems and DAMN! They be high! :\ Yes I know most of you probably thought I knew that but, suprise, newb here had no clue. I may still be shooting for the Slash coming friday but if I can get the option (being the wife don't throw a fit) I have been looking at HPI's Firestorm Flux. Only $110 more. Is it a good product? If it was your choice between the two: Traxxas Slash and HPI Firestorm Flux (it's BL) wich would you shoot for? I know taste has a lot to do with this as wel becuase I do like the look of the Slash but getting a set up to where I can really top it out for electric is going to cost me more.
Whut Ya'll think? Stick with the Slash?

.

LOL I just realized what I have been looking at was called a E-Firestorm 10T Flux. silly me :p:

I vote Slash...I hate minis, they are fragile and very close to useless IMO

I say you can't go wrong with a Slash. It was my first RC (yes, I know they have only been out two months) and Since then I have gotten an LST and have a Slayer coming next week. The Slash is way fun. That having been said the Slash suffers from a lack of traction. It is actually fun because you can really throw it around, almost drifting thru corners and curves, but adding a BL system and LIPO tends to make the truck too touchy. Just FYI...

As for minis and micros--they have their place in the world but aren't near as fun as 1/10 for all around bashing.

If it is a Brushless RTR that you want you might look at these two RC'S from Traxxas http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSDB7**&P=ML and this one http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&P=SM&I=LXSDB6**
Thanks abadk9420, I must have over looked those. ;) For some reason I have urge to get one that is two wheel instead of four. I youtubed the Rustler and liked the shots I saw. I may look into it as well. The Slash is still in the back of my mind as well as the Firestorm http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUHD1**&P=ML.

The HPI Firestorms are great little trucks, very competitive on the club race scene. They can take a beating. You can always put bigger tires on it if you want later.
The non brushless firestorm hauls butt with a good battery, the brushless should be insane.
Either way the HPi or the Traxxas.... you can't go wrong. HPI is known for being more durable than Traxxxas for the record.

Thx. I'm pretty much set on a 1:10 scale.
