Hi this is ny first proper post any help is very much needed, in short i have a t maxx .15trx abit of an oldie! struggled from day one to set it up hardley ever used and been looked after but it will just not run rifght, it's probably me not doing it right, thinking of upgrading to the picci .26 and hope i have better luck with that one any thoughts please, the simptems are hard to start, cuts out when running at 3/4 speed seams to over heat been running it rich, but things don't seam to work well, is the engine worn out? what am i doing wrong, help please

Well, it depends on how much fuel has run through it. Has it sat for a long time with fuel in it at all? How hot is hot?

The picco 26 may be a bit much for that older design.

You may find it easier just to get an engine that is similar to the one you have now. Side exhaust, rotary carb. There are a few 18's that will get the job done pretty well without over stressing the trans, diffs and axles.

A .26 is def too much for an old .15 Maxx. I've had several of the TRX .15s, they are one engine that definitely respond well to sealing. I'd take the engine apart for a good cleaning and sealing job if you want to give the engine a good fighting chance. If you have the $$ money and want to just be done and running-go with one of the engines Olds linked to.

thank you for your advise, thought the .26 woulb be too much but wanted to know, don't want to waste money and wreck this old girl. the boys would never forgive me it's their after school get away with me;) like i said i'm new to nitro engines so please don't be offended if it seams i ask a stupid question.

as for how hot i sometimes have steam appearing from around the engine then it's a sod to start, i have a temp gauge in the post somewhere!!!!! changed the glow plug not long ago, don't ever recall adjusting the low speed needle only the high speed needle.

when running if you open it up it will bog alittle then atenpt to go, when it is up to speed it changes into 2nd queit well but then speed seam to drop alittle.

on slowing down there is a small what i would call banging or rattling sound, idle speed is open slightly wider as stalling is commen if not.

as for sealing again sorry for sounding dumb but can you please explain where abouts i'm to seal,
i've taken the engine to bits before and gave it a good clean put back together and engine fired up first time, i was so impressed!!!!!!

read the tuning tips and tricks at the top of the nitro forum. It explains sealing in detail. Sealing is a must do on any trx engine.

It sound as if you are way too lean on the high speed needle, since you are getting steam off of the head it is way too hot also cutting out at 3/4 throttle tells me it is too lean as well. Set it back to factory settings and start over from there. Factory settings on th .15 is 2.5 turns from closed on the high speed needle and 1.5 turns from closed on the low speed needle. Also check you exhaust coupler it may have a crack it it causing the lean condition. Just a note I have never had to seal any of my Traxxas engines and I own 6 of them, and they all are in trucks running today just fine with my oldest being at least 7 years old.

So you've gotten lucky. Big deal. Give us one reason why sealing an engine is a bad idea? Contradicting good advice won't make you many friends. Seal your engine, then follow the above advice.

I never said it was a bad idea. You said it was a must with all Traxxas engines. I was just telling otherwise. If it is a must explain to me why.

hey man i also just got a Tmaxx with a .15 pro and was having the same problems your having, but i couldnt even get mine to go into 2nd because it would bog at 1/2 throttle. I tore apart my engine last nite and it was pretty toasted. So maybe a rebuild is what you also need

In the simplest terms, sealing an engine eliminates the possibility of air leaks. Read the tuning tips and tricks at the top of the nirto forum for details.

hi it's been awhile been on my hols, thank you for all of your advise stripping the engine now to make sure it's all clean and nothing in there sealing will be next then back to settings to see if things change will keep you all informed
