I just bought a 3.3 motor for my 2.5 t maxx and i keep stripping spur gears my question is i have the old stlye slipper clutch with the slipper pegs do i need to upgrade to the 3.3 slipper clutch with the friction pads? My mesh is correct everything is tight i ran it all day yesterday then today about 5 min and the spur gear is toast i go thru two spur gears a week just about depending on how much i run

here is how i adjust gear backlash. most receipts are .002 inch. dillions, k/mart ect. most copy paper is .004 inchs. set the gears so .002 paper comes out very wrinkled, but NOT torn. the .004 paper should tear in to. then if the gears run smooth you are good to go

u say ur mesh is good and everything is tight...do you mean ur mesh is tight?? because if its to tight that can cause striped gears

i had a sirio .18tx on it but went back to the 3.3 traxxas motor

its not the motor i just did the same thing the only thing i can think of is to make sure the spur screw isnt too tight

make sure ur motor mount isnt broken i had the same problem until i tore it down and thats what i found my mount was in 2 pieces

just replaced my motor mount a couple days ago took a bad roll

when does it strip? when ur just driving casually or when u land a jump???

i went out to the track sunday for like 4 hours and beat on my truck ran fine no problems the next day took it out in the grass feild behind my house just running no jumping and with in ten minutes spur gear was stripped put a new spur gear on then fried that one aswell. i think my tranny is messed up i have a 3.3 tranny on the way

ok...your mesh is good right???but maybe the tranny will help... hope u figure it out!!!

running in tall grass usualy puts lots of stress on the gears, if your slipper is to tight that could be causing yor stripped spur 2 options from wat i see....
1. stop running in tall grass
2. loosen the sliper a tad

A few things to check.......
the tranny screws are stripped and the tranny is moving
bearings inside the tranny are worn
the motor is at a slight angle
the chassis is not flexing due to a crack
the clutch bell is not worn
the clutch bell bearings are not worn
