Hey guys. I'm new to the forum.. I just bought my first RC two weeks ago. I have a Revo 3.3 Nitro. I'm through the break in on it. My problem is that I just stripped my first spur gear, do to a couple of hard hits of the foundation of the house (I know. NEW driver and loose gravel). I just replaced a new spur gear (following the factory specs.) and I just stripped the second one with in 10 Min's. later. I never hit anything or jumped it. Just drove it up and down the driveway. The weather is cold out today. I had it on the factory tunes (just to start out), and then it happened again.

My question is, what else can I do to keep the spur gear from stripping? I was really careful to follow the factory specs. (paper method) to get it right the first time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

make sure gear mesh is right and that your moter is tight on the chassie it could be moveing around and causeing the gear mesh to change.
 
put a piece of paper between the gears and put locktite on the engine bolts and make sure they are tight after you get it set then pull the paper out.this will give you good mesh of the gears
 
Thanks guys. I'll make sure to recheck the motor mounts. How tight should the gear mesh be? I used the paper method before but obviously didn't get it right. Not sure if I just didn't get it tight enough or to tight.
 
Push the engine up as tight as you can to the spur then spin a piece of paper in with the mount screws loose. Then push it up tight and tighten the screws. When you pull out the paper it should spin without binding.

Make absolutely sure your engine screws are tight like they said. If they aren't the engine will move and strip the gear.

Also, check your clutch bell bearings (the gear that drives the spur). If they are fried, fell apart or missing, your mesh setting won't matter as it will allow the CB to move around on you.
 
Thanks. I think I got it. The bell bearing is OK. Thanks for the advise. I'll keep that in mind.
 
i know that i had the same problem trying to set my mesh. my revo is somewhat older and was used before i had it. i know that when i loosened my motor mount to set the mesh that it wouldnt just move by itself. i had to wedge a pry bar in there and move it like that, so i knew a piece of paper wasn't going to set my mesh right. i just moved it close enough so that there was a little resistance between the spur and CB and its been good ever since!. hope that helps if the paper method doesn't
 
Thanks for the advice. I noticed that mine was the same way. I ended up using a screw driver to move my motor. I think I finally got it! So far I haven't stripped it again. Thanks every one.
 
great glad that i wasn't the only one with that problem. i thought i was weird that i couldnt move it by hand so i wedged the screw driver in there and it moved.

Glad my little piece of info helped, i had so many people help me out I'm glad can finally give back some of the knowledge i have
 
Yea. It really worked for me. Just got done running mine some more and every thing looks good. It just got a little looser w/o and problems. Thanks!
