Stripped antenna question....

Ok I was Cleaning up my maxx earlier and I noticed that about 1/2 of an inch Of my antenna wire on my reciver is stripped and chewed up pretty bad....... I was just wondering if it is safe to run it Like this or I should tape it or what.............(can't use heatshrink because It won't fit through my antenna tube...)

hmm rember what happend to my maxx that one time it wasn't cut that short.

I would just use some very small shrink wrap tubing over the affected area.

if the wire is intact, shrink wrap is a great idea. if it really bugs you, you should be able to find antena wire at the LHS. you need to know the length you need. some places will soder a new wire on for you. if you have any sodering skillz, you can do it yourself. always more fun that way too.

I had a bad antenna wire on my RS300 receiver. During my trip out to Buffalo I stopped by Fields and I was able to purchase some antenna wire and one of the guys was able to install it for me. I am so glad that I didn't even attempt to try and do it my self. The guy mentioned if you missed the spot in any direction you could roach the receiver.

I can solder but not that good....
Looks Like I'm after some shrinkwrap or a new reciever......... I'm probably just going to heat srink it for now and wait until I can afford a good radio......
(I see no removing my antenna from the tube in my near future)

The guy mentioned if you missed the spot in any direction you could roach the receiver.

did he have to remove the existing wire from the circuit board ? or if u need to just resoder the wires back toghter that is simple. i suggest learning how to soder. practice on old wires and boards.its a vaualbe tool to learn. but how can u fire the board ? make sure u dont overheat the board/wire and ull be fine. also dont drop soder on board maybe that what he ment i dunno.

it came back from horizon missing some soder joints on the steering wheel. i resodered it. no probelems what so ever. it has worked great ever since.

if you're fast enough and you don't get things too hot, you should be fine. practice is a good idea.
