striped out allen head

iwas trying to check out my os the other day & i striped out one of the allen heads on the back plate how do i get this thing out it is inset in the back plate housing.

I think that there a special tool that is used to remove stripped screws? I am sure someone knows Christian? Maxx? Anyone?

You can take a dremel with a thin cutting wheel and make a groove on the top of the stripped screw. That will let you use a flat head screw driver on it. Good luck.

a dremel wont fit it is inset and flush with the back plate

there are several ways you can try to get it out. First you could get an easy out screw extractor from sears, or you can jb weld an old allen wrench into the stripped screw, let it dry completely, then remove the screw.

Those screws are 2.6 mm, make sure you get the exact replacement from OS, or Kyosho makes a 2.6 assortment. Don't try to use 2.5mm screws.

Why do they have to call it a screw extractor? I think most guys would rather it was called something less unpleasant...

And you can get all sorts of "damaged fastener removers" (how's that for a better sounding name?) and your local hardware store just like NC said...

idid not think sears had one that small i'll get one today were can i get the 2.6 allens on line sears is about 10 miles fron here but lhn is 65 it is better to order they prob dont have them+ i'm to lazy to go.

Sears should have one small enough unless you live in a rural area. I have to go to the Charlotte sears because the one close to me has about half the stock of the Charlotte store.

You may want to invest in a GOOD set of Allen Drivers and avoid 90% of all striped heads.

I like the JB weld idea... another good method is simply a drill bit with left-hand threads. On a variable speed reversible drill with the right amount of pressure the bit will bite and the screw backs out on the bit. I don't think I'd wanna try that on an engine, though.

EXACTLY!

To add to that, you don't have to buy the expensive "R/C" tools. I went to Lowes and bought a set of true Allen brand meteric allen wrenches for around $5. I can not express how good these things work. I was trying to get a 1.5mm allen screw out with one of my stocky 1.5 wrenches than came in a kit. I thought the head was was stripped. I realized I was using the wrong wrench so I picked up the 1.5mm "Allen" brand and screw backed right out.

Good Allen wrenches = no more stripped heads.

It's also known in the trade, as an "Easy Out"

The dremel & cutting wheel trick will work, but you will cut into the backplate a tad. Not really a big deal, just be careful and go slow as not to cut too deep. The JB Weld trick sounds good too, if it holds.. Good luck..

your all wrong it is called screw out they work good and they sould for 43.29 you get 7 of them.5$ allens are a better deal..

No one is wrong imnotsure, screw extractors & easy outs have been around forever. The "screw out" is a fairly new product to come out by companies like Craftsman, Husky, etc.
I still say the dremel is your best bet..
