Hi everybody !!! My savage x still dont shift into 2nd gear, even if i set-up the tranny so that it shifts sooner but does'nt shift ???

How much fuel have you run through it? Is the slipper too loose and slipping? I think your supposed to tighten it all the way and back it off 1/4-1/2 turn. If it's loose, it won't get enough of the power to the trans to shift.

If your still midst break-in, it may be too rich/new to get up to the proper RPM's to shift as well.

I ran at least 12-13 tank now !!! Whats a slipper what does it do and would it be slippin :flaming: ?

Slipper is the nut that holds the spur gear on. (the big round thing with teeth on it ;) )

They have a tendency to be set a bit on the soft side from the factory. The intent of a slipper is to absorb shock from landing when you land and your on the gas. If the slipper doesn't slip, all the power from the free spinning tires goes through your drive train and normally busts stuff. A little slip is recommended if you don't like replacing axles/diffs all the time.

Is the engine running up through the RPM's cleanly or is it still gurgling from being rich from stock settings?

Thanks for the info...I would say that it runs clean(no gurgling)...damn savage x !!!

Boutch, You seem to be having alot of problems with the savage. Did it come in a Kit or RTR? Alot of the questions you are asking you can find reference to in the engine or assembly manual, go though them both and double check all of your settings on everything.

HI !! it was an RTR and :sorry: about all the question...but i like talkin to real poeple that knows all the tips and tricks !,for some of you guys have been through 10 even 20 years of experience in this hobby so...compare to a stack of papers glued together...i'll choose YOU guys for the help that i need...if its ok with you guys ?

by all means keep the questions coming... do you have yahoo or AIM messenger? my AIM is eartaker666 and my yahoo is eartaker78 I'm always on yahoo but not so much on aim.

If your slipper is coming loose, I posted a thread sometime back. It's entitled "Savage Slipper coming loose - the fix". It's prolly a couple pages down, but it details what causes the loose slipper, and how to fix it. It only takes one washer, some black grease, and a few minutes of your time.

Nope god dammit...its was the tranny setup(i think)cuz i gave it a least 1/4 turn counter, and re-started it and VOILA !!!! The monster in it just wanted to get out cuz when it shifted..WOW that thing flyzzzzz !!!:8-0:

Hey Boutch, read the book. Beleive me, it will give you a lot of info but DO keep asking questions..........

I'm having a similar issue... It seems like my savage has lots of power at first, but when I get past about half throttle it seems to lose power. I have never had it shift out of first gear. Any suggestions? Is my mixture too rich? I have a T Maxx and I've tuned that up pretty well, but I'm not having much luck with the savage. Suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

It sounds like you're stuck in 2nd. Check the owners manual on how to adjust the shift point. You'll need a 2mm Allen wrench. Adjust in 1/8th turn increments, until you see it shift. You can fine tune it from there. Also, make sure your engine is running/tuned correctly, and fully broken in.

All i can say is to adjust your shifting point like everybody says almost...it worked for me !!! Yeah the rpms might have something to do with it too, but if your engine is tune good...then i think you should adjust your shifting point on tranny(counter clockwise)And if the engine is not completely broken into it does'nt help.Well thats my :2cents:

it's a 3 speed, and I'm trying to get it broken in. I've been through about 8 tanks and I figured I should be getting to the point of opening the throttle enough for it to shift, but it's not shifting. I am thinking I should maybe lean the mixture a bit. It does sound like after about half throttle it bogs down, and gurgles a bit.

Since it's the three speed, you'll have to loosen the 1-2 shift screw up a fair amount. Mine was a full two turns off. Now I've got it shifting flawlessly.
