Alright guys, I tore down one of tha revos and sealed the mill and carb, Replaced the fuel lines and checked the tank for air leaks.. Got everything sealed up tight and went out to run.

I had the carb set to factory and ran the truck for about 5 minutes.. I got the shift point dialed in and leaned the HSN out little over 1/4 turn. So I'm sitting at just over 3 1/2 turns on HSN and LSN is still flush..
I ran it for about 15 minutes pretty hard and keep a check on the temp.. Maxed out at 278 degrees which I thought was pretty good. This thing was scream'n.. Turned it off and chilled for awhile..
I went to run it a few minutes ago and within 2-3 minutes was hitting up close to 300 again... Turned it off ,let it cool and went back to factory settings. Fired it up and the temp shot right back up to 290 and climbing...

I'm really at a loss as to what is going on. I didn't have any wrecks or bumps to knock anything loose. I let the mill set for 2 days so I know it set.

I know every engine is different but what are some of the neddle settings you guys are using??? I thought I was already pretty rich.. I'm even running with the body off at these temps so I can't imagine what they would get to with a cover.. when I ran earlier it was about 90 degrees outside and the last run its about 85 so not a big change in ambient temp or weather conditions..
I'm Getting really bummed. I haven't ran either of my trucks for more than 15-20 minutes since I got them without having a temp issue.. I have tested both for leaks and didn't find any but thought I would seal them anyway just to give it a try.. I'm running 20% traxxas top fuel and its a fairly new gallon..Any suggestions???

Sorry, I forgot to put that on there. It's a Traxxas part#3232x super duty lond-medium

Can a worn plug cause high temps??? I think it's pretty new but I didn't know if an old plug could cause high temps..

I'm going to get a new gasket and try that but it looked good.. Everything is ass tight and I was real careful to do it right. I guess I'm going to tear it down and replace all seals and gaskets, new plug , and re-seal the mill... All I can think is just redo everything. I'm even going to pick up some new fuel. If this doesn't work I guess I'll try my hand at a different mill. I'm pretty fed up right now.
I read something on the web about using rtv and not tightening all the way until it sets. It said just too put it together then after 24 hours to tighten on down...what do you guys think???? do you guys use RTV around the head gasket as well???

Its kill'n me cause both my rigs are doing this. They are both used but It would seem i'm doing something wrong. I'm a pretty sharp guy as for as mechanics and assembly stuff goes so its not something stupid like not understanding simple instructions.
All I can think is just redo everything

when i sealed my mill i snugged the screws and then tightened them the next day. and no do not seal the head gasket with rtv just make sure when you tighten your head bolts do it in a star pattern.i would also star back at factory settings on all needles. i feel your pain!!! it sucks having one that you can't get to run right no matter what you do. just hang in there and somebody should be able to help solve the problem.

no just use the rtv on the back plate and the carb where it goes into the engine and as you said make sure you don't tighten it up till it sets, just snug the bolts up on the backplate and on the carb dont even snug it up wait till it all sets up and torque everything down

:EDIT:
smear the rtv on the backplate and carb and tighten every thing down when u put it back together
sorry

On this rig yesterday It was running good at about 3 1/2 out on the first run. On the later run I ended up at 4 1/2 out on HSL and still hitting 300..

On my other rig I got all the way up to 5 1/2 turn out on HSL and was still hot.. I checked for leaks on both mills and didn't find any..
