Still a newbie

Hi all, I'm still very new to this. I ordered gtr XXl for the rear of my Stampede 4x4. This is my first upgrade. It went well. Took it out and tried it. Big change. But I took a jump 1 1/2' onto the street and rolled. Now there is aloud clicking(I busted something). There is no visiable damage. where should I look first? I know its in the gears. but front rear? This is a much needed stress release for me. Id like to get it fixed before before it breaks down. I am extreamly low on funds so the rebuild can't cost that much.
Any suggestions would be great,

New take off parts way cheaper than dealer cost. That should help keep costs down at least.

Thanks, but I dont know what is broken. Front or rear I'm not sure yet.

You could start by taking out the front and rear drive shafts to see if you can locate the source of the noise.

Sounds like a knock on the ole spur gear. No big deal. Tiny rock gets in there and now its noisy. They're a wear part.

Keep playing till the broken part flys out. Easiest way to diagnose.

Thank you, but I'm not trying to wreck it. I can't afford busted pieces(I lost everything during covid), still dealing with it. I'm sure ill figure it out. but any advice would help.

Remove the battery or at least turn off the power and remove the body.
Roll it on the ground and listen for the noise you’re talking about and pin point the location.

The good news with it being a 4x4, if its a ring and pinion or diff issue, more than likely you can pull the front and put it in the rear and drive rwd until funds arrive.

I would pull the gear cover. It's one screw and then wiggle it off.

Roll the truck and look at the spur and pinion.

You're looking for a rock or a busted spot in the plastic.

This would be my guess too. Razer blade/exacto knife to the rescue. Set your gear mesh again and drive off.

Gear looks fine. One partially broken tooth, but thats not causing the issue. Rolling by hand it feels like something is hanging. While rolling, each 360 turn of the wheels there is resistance then one loud click, then no resistance until the next rotation.
Anything to point me in the right direction would be great. I'm learning little by little.

You could start by removing the driveshafts. That should help you to narrow down the source of the noise.

Pull the pinion gear off. Roll it back and forth and try find the spot that is crunchy

Still have factory plastic axles?

I do, so far the only upgrade is GTR xxl rear shocks.

Pulling the pinion off and rolling it is a good idea but before I would take stuff apart, id look close at the 'u joints' in the axle shafts. The factory plastic ones are really weak and I've seen one eyelet rip open and cause your symptom.

I still say ripping on it till something gives is the best option but I'm kinda lazy. To each their own.

I agree with everyone that taking the pinion off and trying to move the truck is the next logical move.

A broken tooth on a gear can definitely cause binding and clicking.
