I am considering doing a motor swap. (I am a noobie, just to warn ya) I am curious what I would all have to do to do the Picco .21 swap to my Tmaxx 2.5. What are some of the stuff Id have to purchase to get this to work well? Any tips would be most appriciated. Thanks! ~Andy

its a drop in.

however I would replace the pipe and and get new clutch etc to go with it then fix stuff ax you break stuff IE tranny diffs driveshafts.

Like chris said, you are asking for problems with putting that engine in. Make sure you have some extra trans gears and drive shafts laying around. I would recommend getting a good set of cvd's.

Also, from what I've read, it is a drop in, which means it will bolt right in, but you don't get very good performance. You will need a new pipe that is designed for a 21, not a 15 which is what the 2.5 is. You won't get near the power you should if you stick with that pipe.

What motor would be good for more speed and power?

That 21 would be great.

Even a XTM .18 ($89) ($79 on sale right now) would rock.

I know XTM .18's if broken in right really rock. I wuld rather buyt two XTM's at $89 than one picco at 2.5x the price

4u2nv, I bought and installed the Picco P2 .21 engine. It installed with no trouble at all, but the power level sucked. I was totally disappointed, so I started this thread: https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14516&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

It is well worth your time to read that thread.

After I did all the things in the above-referenced thread, the T-Maxx now runs like a raped ape. It is absolutely a blast to drive, much more fun than before. It wheelies on demand and screams like a banshee. The P2 is a great wake-up for the Maxx.

You will absolutely, positively have to buy a tuned pipe. The P2 is a dog with the stock T-Maxx pipe. Other than that, everything else should be OK, unless you really hammer the hell out of it. I did the FOC and a metal RRP spur gear, but you may not need that.

One thing to be very careful of; check the fit between the one-way bearing on the EZ start and the backplate of the engine. That area was binding on me. I actually sanded a little off the outside of the plastic gear that the one-way bearing sits in, and that gave me the clearance to make the starter work without the bearing grinding away the aluminum.

If you do it right, you will be most happy with the upgrade.
