Any suggestions on a high torque steering servo.

Hitec HS654-MG. 133oz./in at 6 volts. A little on the slow side though...perfect for bashing though.

I would look at more servos than Hitec. Some are good and others seem to have a lot of issues. Not to say all Hitec servos are bad I would just compare some other good brands like Airtronics, Futaba, and JR. What do you plan on spending? Do you want a standard servo or a digital servo (digital is more).

Hitec HS-5645MG works like a champ. I push some Imex Baja's with them & a friend uses it to push his Big Joe's 40 Series.

Make sure when you upgrade your steering servo, that you switch out your throttle/brake servo. Simply take the SF-2 off the steering and put it on the throttle/brake. And just take the SF-1 off and keep it as a back-up servo or sell it.

The HS 5645MG is also a great servo. I reccomended the 645MG because it is a little cheaper and still a great servo. It all depends on what you want to spend. You can sped upwards of 100 dollars for a servo if you want.

can someone recommend a good digital futaba, JR or airtronics steering servo for a savage? for less than $100.

Here is the one I use in both my Savage and T-Maxx

Little on the pricey side but it turns the big tires under any circumstance. I am very happy with it.

There are others out there and this comes in $10 above you price range but if I had a MT I would have this servo up front for sure

It has 140 oz of torque @ .12 speed. Everyone need to remember that the holding power of a digi is much greater than any standard and the torque numbers cannot be compared in this regard.

remember those specs are @ 4.8V so if you run 6V like everyone else than you can expect around 250 oz of torque from that bad dog! And expect that transit time to drop from .18 @ 4.8v to .14-.15 transit time.

I just bought a Hitec 645 MG. It's OK. Not sure it deserves all the fan fare it's getting. The torque is good but the speed is slow.

I'd also recommend the servo saver upgrade if your gonna puts bucks into a better servo.

HB- what's the difference between Digital and regular servo's? Can I run a digiatl servo with my Airtronics M8 radio?

I have Novak SYnth in the Radio and RX.

Novak Synth receiver should work just fine with digital servos. I run the HiTec digital servos, a Novak synth receiver, and the Spectra synth module in my radio. Works just fine.
