On RCBasher.com there is a Hop-Up for replacing the plastic bushings in the steering posts with 6x10x3mm bearings. I am not sure how old the info on the site is. I bought my Savage X 4.6 a few months ago. Will mine still just have bushings? Did HPI ever put bearings in these steering posts? I would hate to tear it down and find there are bearing alread there. Also is there a good brand or style of bearings, or is a bearing just a bearing??

nope there is no bearings in it. i just did his mod on x 2 weeks ago and man theres such a huge difference in steering is crazy.

i say do it you wont regret it

:goodpost:I agree with SAVAGE BASHER K4.6, it is a huge change from the bushings. Go for it!!

http://www.teamfasteddy.com/ has bearings. I replace steering bushings with bearings in all my rigs if they don't have them.

Fast Eddy's bearings are pretty good, especially for the price. Not sure if he has your size though.

If not, http://www.avidrc.com/ may have them. Eddy's are a better quality though, at least the ones I bought recently. I've bought Avid's, boca green seal, OFNA, Losi and FastEddy's. Avids are the least "quality" out of the bunch, but their cheap like FE's. I'll buy from FE though probably from now on if he has my sizes.

IMHO, boca's weren't any better than any of the others besides Avids. Not worth the $ for the green seals. Never bought anything else from them though.

Is there more to this mod than just installing the bearings in place of the bushings. On some postings, regarding this mod, some people talk about needing a dremel tool. What is this used for? What needs to be modified?

this mod is as old as the savage, and one of the best ones, the size is correct and i didnt have to dremel anything, i did this mod about 5-6 yrs ago and used duratrax bearings, there still in and working great

I found the size needed at my LHS, and WOW what a differance. Definatly worth it. I also did remove a little material off of my front hubs, and I did get quite a bit more steering movement. It has a tigher turning radius now.
