Hey,
I've been having some serious starting and tuning problems with my Savage. I got it started the other day but it got dark so i had to go inside, but then the next day i couldn't get it started at all, and ever since then. I've tried goin back to factory settings, and still havent gotten it. My pllstrt has been rough to pull on and has even locked up. I can hear the engine almost start like once and then not for a while after. I have cleared out the enginge of fuel a couple of times. Also, i have a loose carb. It just doesn't want to tighten, I've tried tightening the screw on the side but it doesn't work. If you guys could help me that would be great. :devious: :devious:

Could it not be starting because of my glowplug?.. do i need a different one?

Thanks for you help

If you think it might be your glow plug... test it out:

1.) Make sure glow igniter is charged
2.) Remove glow plug and hold in fingers
3.) Insert into glow plug into the igniter like normal
4.) If the glow plug coils light up bright orange, its not the plug thats the problem, but if your igniter is fully charged, and the glow plug doesn't ignite, buy a new plug and try to start your car then...

LMK,
-Pat (redhatman)

ok thanks... I still need somthing about the tuning and stuff though... where does the LSN sit when it is fully closed...? and about the carb
Thanks for the help

It would help if you give some more information. I.e what engine are you running? This is info that we need to know to help you. If you can't get your carb to seal well, use some high temp RTV silicone sealant on the base of your carb and it will seal it up real well.

I think your probelm is a combination of an air leak with an incorrectly tuned carb.

I'm running the stock S-25.... or atleast TRYING to..lol could you explain a bit about the air leak. and where i could get the silicone, Thanks

Air leaks happen, I honestly couldn't tell you why. When you get an air leak you cause a Lean condition. This usually effects the high end, but it can reak havoc on the low end as well.

I just got a tube of the sealant at my local NAPA store, it was 3 or 4 bucks for the tube, and you'll be all set for the rest of your rc career.

I've never had a chance to play with a S-25 so I can't really help you with the stock needle settings for that mill.

it seals it in place right, so it wont move? cuz I've been thinking air might be seeping in there..

Did your engine come with a manual? Most, but not all engines factory settings are making the LSN about flush with its casing, and about 2 turns out on the HSN. I would say try that on ur engine....

BTW, did you do the glow plug check?

yeah I've done the check many times. and my manual says nothing about where the LSN sits so... i dont know. In that case though i might have stripped it, if so how can i tell. and about the carb, i have some Qualco plastic Rubber Sealer. and could i use this to seal it?

what are you saying could be stripped? the LSN needle? to check that just screw it in and out, and as long as it can't unscrew by itself, it should be fine...

as far as thag rubber sealant, I dont know. The stuff you use is silicon sealant. If you use rubber, it has a chance of melting all over...

first redhatman .....please know what your talking about or do some research before you start spewing of incorect information ...where did you come up with the 2 turns out?? do you not like him and want him to fry his engine? ...i know you want to help ..but please sit back and learn a little first

ok koobs120 ...here is a link to hpi's site about tuning the s-25 http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm ....if the engines already brokin-in? the settings for both hi & low speed needles are 2-1/2 to 3 turns out from fully closed ...what you want to do is turn the needle GENTLY clockwises untill you start to feel resistance then turn it out to 3 turns ...for the low speed needle hold the carb closed with one hand and turn it in GENTLY again till you feel resistance DO NOT overtighten then turn it back out 3 turns as well .....you will probily be a little rich at this time so you can lean them about an hour at a time untill performance & temps are good.....

EDIT: only use hi temp silicone ...something that can't take the heat these little engines put out you can pick it up in any autoparts store
