Are there any other methods of starting a Savage that eliminates the use of a one-way bearing? Just wondering, I've had 2 fail rather quickly and would like to be more reliable. The engine starts easily with a good bearing.

your oneways arent the problem, If you keep going through them then you need to replace the starting shaft, the shaft that comes out of the engine and the oneway goes over. If it is all shiny and has a wear spot the oneway won't catch. You also have to clean and lube the bearing periodically.

The only starting system that doesn't use a oneway is the Starterbox, which a Savy can't use.

I've already checked the shaft, it has no measurable wear. I can clean the bearing and it will work for few times but then slips again.

What lube do you reccommend?

my friend makes a small hole on the housing of his pullstart so he can fit one of those little red plastic tubes that come with nitro cleaner. make the hole just big enough on the top side of the housing and every time you use the truck just spray alittle in there to clean the one way
