Starterbox help.

Well, some of you may have seen the pics of my LSP and all the work I've done on it, and now I can run it casue the belt on my starterbox died. I have this starterbox,. It was trying to start my Wasp .28 when it died, if any of you have had this motor you would know it is TIGHT. THe box had a harder time with the Wasp .28 than my Collari B3. On the manual the part nuber says 92822, but I can't find it anywhere. Is there anyplace where I can just buy a belt? I don't have the money right now for a whole new box...

Any help would be great.

i dont have one but ill try to help. the same thing happened to me today but with my roto start. and it wasn't a belt that wore out it was the one way bearing. but we both have one thing in common. it wont start lol. ill try to find that for you

www.nitrohouse.com if they dont list it, call them, they have it or will get it for you. the box you have is prone to have a loose belt from factory. make sure the new one is tight when you replace it and you wont have any more trouble.

You could also try finding the belt at a vaccuum repair shop. Vaccuum cleaners use many different sized belts.

I'm with bill.. i jsut got my start box but the belt does LOOK like a vacume belt.. take the old one to wal mart or somewere and try your luck.. can't hurt and its better than waiting a week to get one shipped

What about a auto parts store or something? Like a NAPA, or a hardeware store. Don't have any vacumm stuff near by, WalMart is like 25 min. away so I could try that if nothing else.

Do you think I would be better off getting a better box? Or will it be fine if I get the belt tight?

Do you have a bike parts store nearby? You could go buy some bike gears/sprokets and a bike chain... :jk:

Now that I think about it your probably right beason, vaccum stuff is probably my best bet.

Well guys I fixed it...sort of. Me and my buddy put a savage spur gear so that it connected the motor to the wheel perfectly. We got the mesh good so that there is only slight amounts of added friction over the belt it had. The box still can not turn over the Wasp, at all at cool temps. We got his heat gun and heated up the engine to just under 200 degrees and the box could only turn it over one or two strokes before it crapped out. This was with two full charged 7.2 volt batteries. If we took out the glow plug it still struggled to turn over the enigne but was able to very slowly. I just don't think this box can handle a Wasp .28. The wasp has good amounts more pinch then my Collari B3 had. So I think I have to go with a better box, which really blows. What do you guys suggest, I always hear this one suggested. Is that the highest torque box available? If not what is?

any of the ofna's with a 12v motor are serious tough. but honestly, your box has the same driveline as my box that I've used to break in my vspec, and top p5. fully charged packs of a high MAH rating should do the trick. loosen the plug a hair, and heat with a gun. make sure that the flywheel is backed up so that when you hit the box, it has a bit of spin going before it gets into the pinch zone. also when you bump it. push down lightly to get the box going without touching the flywheel yet, when the box is up to speed, hit the flywheel hard so that it can't slip. I've never had that method fail me.

Corrado, I have done all those things. I heated up the mill to about 200ish, looosend the plug a hair, had fully charged (1800 mah) dual 7.2 volts sticks, and lined up the flywheel so that it had all the time it could before hitting pinch zone. The thing that worries me is that the third time I tired to start it the belt got trashed, and when I took it out it wasn't very loose, I could only tighten it a little more, and then it wouldn't spin very fast and the motor got hot under the stress. I think that this high compression .28 engine could really use a direct drive box. I just hate not being able to run R/Cs because of something stupid like this and I no longer trust belt driven anything lol. I've had a belt wear out in my car (1:1), RS4 2 and other things, I jsut don't like belts anymore haha.

Thats what I am gunna do Corrado. cvec, it would be very hard to find the right sizwe sprokets I bet. Plaid, it wasn't me lol, the Wasp served that belt its ass on a silver plater.
