I am at wits end!! The other day when i went to start my Mach 427 and to my surprise the roto start just free spun. I blamed the one way bearing, took it out and stuck in a new one. It worked fine yesterday, but to my horror today it free spun again!

Could this be the offender??

Has this happened to anyone? Am I doing something wrong?

For the love of gawd help!

Could be the culprit, but my bet would be on the OWB. I know you said you just got it, but I've had OWB's blow almost right away as well. Rotostarts are notoriously hard on those bearings.

You may want to try cleaning both the starter shaft and OWB with denatured alcohol then lightly oil the bearing.

Yeah I was thinking that oil might have something to do with it, I cleaned it as best I could with a tissue and it worked for a couple seconds. Ill try the alcohol and if that fails ill give it another coating of foul language.

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice guys.

I think fuel with too much oil is the villain in this case, i just wish my LHS would sell me products that help me instead of making more problems.

If you think fuel is leaking past the backplate, you may want to seal it with RTV sealant. You don't want to starve your engine of oil in an attempt to prolong the life of the OWB, you'll end up killing the engine.

All fixed. Cleaned the bearing and shaft with brake cleaner and then applied some OWB oil.

Good as new!

That engine uses an internal one way which means you have to pull it apart and clean it more often.

Also, how cold is it where you are? Do you use ARO after each bashing day?

Atm its about 24 - 32 C and yeah i always put in a couple drops of ARO when I'm done for the day.
