i need a little help choosing a starter box. i have no clue which one's good/bad, what to get, never owned one, never needed one til now. never even checked on any. but what little bit i've seen through my search, i'd like to have the one w/the plug-ins on front for the glo plug. what would be a good one to get for the xxxnt? is this one a good one?

I'm in the same situation. I've been looking at that same starter box. Can this box be used with the Mugen MTX-3?

well, the major thing i'm looking for is quality. by a search on ebay, i heard people saying something about there's over 3/4 of the wheel still good. what is this saying, that the teeth on the wheel are stripped off? which ones last longer, etc., etc. basically all i'm going by now is, if it costs more it must be better. but that's not always the case.

imnotsure- i have that exact same starter box. it works great. the only thing is that the glow starter that comes with it sucks, or maybe it was that mine was defective or something. it like completely melted the coil in my plugs in a matter of seconds.
i use a 12 volt overnight charger and the battery lasts a long time on a charge, that is if you turn it off when your not using it.

by the way, i also have a xxxnt. so all in all i would recommend this box to you(then again i have no experience with any other boxes, but this one works great for me).

i just read your second post...the wheel that turns the flywheel is rubber (it has to be)...there are no teeth. the rubber i assume gets grinded down over time and thats why they say theres 3/4 of it left.

if you have any more questions on this box let me know.

after reading further, i see they do have a rubber wheel. the only thing you have me paranoid on now is the fact that the glo starter is burning the elements on the plug. the whole reason i want this is so i don't have to pack so much w/me. plus there's a lot out there that's cheaper that doesn't have the glo starters, so i guess my next question would be, had any one had this trouble w/glo starters on their starter boxes, or was it like banshee said-maybe it's just his.

I have the linked Ofna box mentioned at the start of this thread. It works fine for me. The glow starter is adjustable for the amount of current going to the glow plug. If it is burning up plugs it is set too high. The motors are easy to switch depending if you need inline or sideways operation. The only thing I didn't like was that the handle is inthe way of the glow starter plugs. I solved this by removing the handle and replacing it with a piece of nylon rope.

I have nothing against OFNA, and I currently use an OFNA starter box but ...

I have the black OFNA box that is linked at the begginging of this thread. My experience with the box was less than stellar. The box can't handle much and if your engine is a little tough to turn or something, the motors will burn out because it doesn't produce enough torque. My E-Maxx has bigger motors in it. The only thing that box has going for it is the power panel with the banana plugs. I'd steer clear of that box unless you wanna spend time and cash replacing the motors all the time.

Here in another OFNA box that I use now. Its is powerful, efficient, and can start almost anything. I have started stuck engines with this thing many times. The odd thing is I had this box before I bought the black one that burnt out but I had it set up to start HPI trucks (sideways flywheel position). It is currently on it's second season of regualr starting with no problems or maintenence issues...

larryA- yeah i know its adjustable but it still blew my plugs. i only had two at the time which both got blown but whatever. the stupid thing fell apart after i brough it in anyway.

a glow starter is like 10-15 bucks anyway so i really dont mind. also for the price i got the box for i can't complain either.
