The motor in my Stater box went out do anybody know ware I can buy a new one

Help!!!!

If it's the dual motor box (open it up and look), it uses twin 550's. They have to be 550's, not 540's. Slightly more torque to 'em. You can get new ones easily; Dynamite has 'em for like $15 a pop, if memory serves right. You can also look at the instructions for the box, since it's AE, and it might list the motor part numbers.

However, if it's the larger single motor; that might be a problem. You might be able to get an airplane starter to fit, but it would require some serious modding.

Don't be afraid to open the box up; Nothing will spring out like a jack n the box.

you can find 550's at radioshack or something close to OEM.

While he could easily find 550's at Rat Shack, he'll need one with the proper spline for the belt pulleys. If memory serves right (been a while since I've replaced starterbox motors), the dual-550 motors' pulley's are press-fitted on. No spline, no flat spot.

It's cheaper and easier to get the Dynamite ones, since they have the pulley fitting already pressed on.

press fitted? bah... companies make things too hard to replace at a cheaper cost these days.

Have you even priced the Rat Shack 550s? They're TWICE AS MUCH as the dynamite 550's.

edit;

Associated: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ASC29075 - $35 ouch.
Ofna: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=OFN92805 - $29 bit better.
Another Ofna: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=OFN92561 $19 - closer still.

Venom: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=VNR2010 $15/PAIR!

Looks like Dynamite doesn't sell the motors seperately anymore; or at least, Horizon won't show it in the search results.

$7.50 a motor. And with the pullys' pressed on. Now, lets' look at Rat Shack, shall we?

No results matching a 550 motor. But trust me, they're around $20 a motor there. Expensive!

before they had those bogus pro pulses, they had 550 motors there that sold for about 4-9 bucks a pop. Kind of a shame they don't sell them anymore... thats bogus

My box on the other hand, has dual 770s... 550s are kinda small.

i dono for sure, i've never had a "name brand" box. I got my "prototype" box as a gift from a company for racing for them. I still wish that it was one BIG motor like in the ofna silver/chrome top.

I don't see why you would need more than 550 motors when using a 1/10 scale box. The engine that is being started by Paperman90 is a small block in a TC3.

Paperman90, if you find that you can take the pulley wheels off the oem motors and put them onto new ones, another cheap replacement option is a set of Emaxx Titans from ebay. I had a buddy that used them as replacement motors in his Mugen box and they worked very well.

Not at the local Rat Shacks.. They wanted way too much for 'em. :thumbdown That's one of the key reasons I picked up an old powerwheels sitting on the side of the road (had a FREE sign on it). They have two 550 motors in them. The key tho, is getting the motors out. The only down side is, they don't have the belt pulley fitting pressed on. You have to use a little heat to get the pulleys off.

I find an angle-grinder works wonders. Kinda leaves the kiddy-car in a less than desirable state.

my box is rather cheap for what it really is. Starts my mtx2, starts my buggy and starts my truggy. Unfortunately, it wasn't purpose built for one class, so some modifying is needed each time i want to run something else.

Did someone's post get deleted earlier? i see now that I have a double post, wasn't like that before IIRC.

Additionally, if they are the 550 motors and you can swap the pulley's, look at local garage sales for one of those Barbie Jeeps (or like kid vehicles). I know the Barbie Jeep's run on two of those 550 motors and they will fit right in the box.

Just make sure you get the most bang-for-the-buck out of it, and pick up a teenage relative from high school with it hanging out of your trunk...
