The 2.5 was a new version we came up with that would be easier to use, and easier to machine. Some buyers did not like the height of the 1.3.

Also, the 2.5 is the fifth mod of the version 2, same with the 1.3.

The extra cost is for the anodizing; it takes a lot of prep and electricity to anodize all the parts.

The pics of the 1.3 (1.1?) posted are actually pretty old; good to see people still talking about it! Although it worked very well for the Savage and the Maxx's, it did not work very well at all for any other ones; which is why it was redesigned.

I am in the process of combining the best parts of both and just making a single design; there is no distinct preference and the more you can do with it the better!

Appreciate all the comments; even criticism helps when we modify designs. Nothing worse than redesigning something only to find out it is NOT an improvement!

As for the eBay one ... it looks like he tried to eliminate the ball and made it more complicated. Also the vise idea will work only on a very limited number of vehicles. Not sure if he tried to copy ours or not, but it does look somewhat similar. If so he would not be the first, Integy has an ugly knock off looking one that looks to be a more blatant copy.

Welcome to the site Sawtooth RC. Good to have you join up and provide insight into your stands.

The 1.1(?) stands I had were by far the best available to work on the Maxx and Savage. The clamping design is what sold me on them. If I still owned a Savage or Maxx, I would have never sold them.

I can definetly see the physcial difference, just is there a difference in the way it works? the one on the right tilts I'm guessing where the one on the left does not? Let me know.. So I'm guessing go with the 2.5 on the left as its newer and built better?

Difference

The 2.5 was designed to be simpler, and also keep the stand lower to the ground. It is also abit more stable, although even a T-Maxx or Savage isn't enough to tilt the 1.3 over. They are both CNC and with the same high quality; it's just the 2.5 was constructed to be a more entry level design for people not willing to spend more money on the larger, but more versatile one.

I have never had feedback from anyone who has owned/used both, but I would like to hear some comparison opinions.

So now that you're here, if I build a copy for myself I shouldn't show it off here huh? :D

That is really up to you, but if you come up with any improvements, I'll be obliged to copy them!

If you want something easy to copy, there is that one company that glues a bunch of plastic pipe together and paints them blue. But I suppose you could almost duplicate that with an old coffee can, or a shoe...

nah... shoes don't work for MT's. Too short. ;)

The PVC ones work to keep the tires off the shelf they sit on to avoid flat spots for storage, but as you noted, yours works much better for a "work" stand that keeps your rig from moving around. I wrapped rubber around my PVC (shoe type) stand to give it some grip to help with the sliding. It helped, but didn't eliminate the issue.
