Ok, i went out crawling yesterday and decided to test my drivetrain. The only upgraded parts are chromoly transmission outdrives, MIP center driveshafts and MIP front driveshafts. The front got wedged and normally i would back out but i decided to go WOT instead and see if it would break, pop out of the rocks, or stall.

Well the ol Goat 18.5 on a 2S lipo stalled on me. So now i have a decision to make. Do i keep the Goat and know i will probably never break anything. Or do i step up to something else just to keep it intresting? for the record, it has never stalled on me while driving normally

I've been doing testing with the Holmes Hobbies puller motors, and there's nothing like them. If they didn't have the most power and torque in a crawler motor, it would still be the best crawler motor on the market because of the low speed throttle resonse and smooth operation provided by the 7 pole armature and cobalt magnets. If you don't want to go that powerful, you could go the route of the Holmes Hobbies 35 turn handwound 540, which is close in performance to the puller motor, just not quite as nice, because it doesn't have the cobalt magnets or 7 pole arm.

If you decide to go with a more powerful motor, you can add the axial slipper clutch for around $25, and dial it in so that it's tight and gives you great performance, but slips right before parts start exploding out of the tranny case. I ordered one and will be running it with all my puller motors.

Another option would be to wait for the brand new motor that John Robert Holmes designed specifically for rock crawling, and is his best performing motor yet. Although I don't know how things could get any better, his stuff defines perfection performance in every aspect, so this new motor has to be insane. It's got to be getting close to release time because we voted on which labels to use on the motors, and he's already getting them printed up.

hmmmm, i wonder if i can use the goat esc with that motor. I wonder what the current draw and recomended voltage is on it.....

I might be buying a mamba max dang it. lol

is it the torquemaster M10?

edit, nevermind. For the setup i want, i am looking at $360. Just seems kinda crazy to spend that JUST to get an overkill on power.

Yeap it's the torquemaster. You can run the goat, but if I were you I would get a Mamba Max or Sidewinder and run 3S LiPo while gearing the piss out of it. I'm going to be ordering an 11 tooth pinion, and probably switching my spur to 32 pitch so I can run an even smaller pinion. However, the goat should power the puller motor just fine, especially to get started and see how you like it. In fact, there is a 5 turn cobalt puller for sale over there. I've sent 3 PM's trying to buy the 7 turn, so I would ask that you please don't try to buy it out from under me. The 5 turn might actually be exactly what you need, because it will be about the same on 2S as the 7 turn is on 3S. John Robert Holmes is running two 5 turn cobalts on his berg comp rig and having pinions custom made. I can change my gearing with the spur gears to an extent before having something custom made.

i was thinking mamba monster, 2100 6S lipo and the torquemaster.........

now you're speaking my language. I'm actually going to be doing some testing with a mamba monster on 6 S pretty soon, but I had to order new tranny gears. I stripped an idler gear last weekend on 3S, so I need some beef for 6S.

if i can sell my novak GTB/Velociti 3.5R setup, i will have a little cashflow. With a new house and dog, my rc cashflow has taken a big hit.

(please don't make me sell my e-savage to pursue my crawler dreams. I could pull an easy grand for it and that would be one SICK crawler)

true. they stay alot cleaner than fast rigs too.....

no, i love my e-savage, i love my e-savage, i love my e-savage, i love my e-savage.

i would also love a 2.2 hustler.

I need to stop coming here...... haha
