Hey guys,

I wanted to know which brakes were best, stainless steel or dual fiberglass brakes. I had stainless steel before, and it would do front flips when you haul on the brakes. I haven't tried out my fiberglass ones though. I basically want brakes that are powerful and long lasting. I will not be racing either. Any ideas? Thanks!

I got dual fiberglass in both of the Savages, when set properly they are really good and long lasting. JMO!

I've used the CF ones and on my savage with a hitec 645 servo i could do endos on command. the steel ones have rubber brake pads though, so they should grab pretty well!

I have the XL brakes on my savage and they kind of suck. It takes a lot of servo movement to get them to slow it down. Locking them up is out of the question. It may just be a linkage change I need, but I wasn't impressed. Considering the pain they are to replace... I'll stick with them for a while longer.

I have them adjusted now to slow it down really quick with smaller tires/wheels. When I was running aftershock tires (big and poofy) for winter running, between the water and more rotational mass, the brakes were more of a suggestion instead of an order.

I have the dual fiber disks in my X and they show almost NO sign of wear whatsoever. Slightly over a year now. :D

ROFL! That's good to know. I'm pretty sure they won't start show wear for a long time.

WAIT!! let me get my sunglasses...ok i can see and smell the brand new fiberglass from here.:p:

wonder if that transmission has ever seen power to it:drool:

Welcome to the Forum. I'm assuming you havent read/seen or drolled over our resident shelf queen. Let me be the first to intoduce you to Rolex. Search his name, read his posts and learn. But I should warn you, many of his posts require the use of sunglasses and a minimum of SPF 200 sunblock :hehe:

Actually browsing through your collection of photos and posts in the few days I have been on this forum, I am shocked at your collection of parts/cars. Shocked and disappointed at the same time. I do not know if you realized this yet due to the glare coming off that tranny, but that is a stock spur gear on there. It's plastic. PLASTIC MAN, PLASTIC. Either you are slipping or going blind due to the glare.

the brakes were more of a suggestion instead of an order.

That is sig stuff right there. That needs to be quoted and in someone's sig.

LMAO!!. I don't need the shades, I have the option of just dimming the lights. There's a reason it hasn't seen sunlight, the reflection would burn me to a crisp. :D

Sorry pal get in line. Rolex knows I have been stocking up on wax....Turtle, carnnuba enriched. I keep my RCs in a dehumidified room....Rust is as BAD or WORSE than dirt.
So back on topic! I like the dual fiberglass. Mine are adjusted well and the grab super hard. The Steel are good too but the only draw back is if you ever get fuel on the brake pads the start to break down and they will loose the sticky backing and will then shred under hard braking. No I ran them for about two years on the same pads with no problems. Some don't get so lucky. Personally I like the looks of the SS better but whatever. I think the fiberglass is longer lasting.
