Spur Gears

I was wondering where you guys get them from, i have a hpi 52 on my savage xl, but want to put a 49/17 set up on it. HPI offers the 49th but its the hub style gear. Would it would on the xl with a lrp 30? Or would the lrp be too much power and rip it apart?

I am not sure I know what you mean by Hub Style gear.....The savage only has two styles of spur gear that I have ever seen....single side and double side slipper. I run a plastic on mine with no problems on a LRP .30

its all about the mesh. plastic spurs are fine if you get the mesh right. If the spur and clutch and too tight together then alot of heat will be generated and the plastic becomes weak and teeth start dissappearing.

Also, the slipper setting is important when running plastic on the savage. With the LRP30, you will almost need to run it locked down tight or it will slip excessively and melt the center out of the spur.

I had that issue on my savage running an LRP28. I can't recall the CB size I was running, but I was trying a 47T spur, it slipped too much and melted the center out. I upped the spur to a 49T and almost locked the slipper then it held and seemed to work fine.
