well i have a 2.5 tmaxx, and i keep spinning off spur gears. and i was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to fix this problem. also i was looking at buying a steel spur gear, but someone told me i had to go steel everything else too. but any help would be great.:surrender:constipat

When you say you are spinning off spur gears... do you mean stripping the teeth off, or do you mean the spur gear actually flies off?

If you are constantly stripping teeth you may want to check your gear mesh. The pinion gear may not be meshing properly. If you are stripping teeth, the mesh is most likely too loose. All you would need to do then is loosen the motor and move the gears a bit closer together and then tighten things back up. You can put a small strip of copy paper in between the spur gear and pinion gear, and once you have tightened everything up, you should be able to gently pull the paper out without tearing, leaving tooth marks in the paper.

yeah,^^^i agree, i went through 3 spur gears till i fiured out that i wasn't lining them up properly, havent had a problem since.

Hey Ryan, if the weather is good this weekend we'll take a look at it and get it meshed right.

You guys gotta come chill at the pool too.

sounds good to me. setting by the pool sounds nice. I'm off this weekend. so that will work out nice. yea I've went through 2 spur gears just this week. i thought i had the mesh right but i guess i didnt. i put one on like monday night. it ran fine for a couple days, then i ran it today and it striped every tooth off. also the friction pins and the small friction plates on the outside of the spur gear keep melting togeather. so I'm kinda confused on wuts going on.

stripping spur gears on tmaxxes has been a problem since day one, there very finicky about gear mesh, gotta have it set just right
and you dont need to go all steel if you want a steel spur, just the steel spur is fine, but you dont need it if you set the mesh right

when i first got my tmaxx i went through the plastic spur gear's alot ended up buying the steel spur gear and i have not had one issue yet and its been about 2 years since i upgraded to steel.

hi

2 things check the mesh on the gears u should be able to put some copy paper in the gears and be able to pull it out without ripping and having gear/tooth marks. if it dont adjust the engine placement.
and if it flys off take it appart and put some thread locker on it:)
