I'm running a s-25 engine with 3-speed, I just wore my spur gear out, and i dont think it was bad meshing, i checked to make sure it was right. i think it was the torq, maybe not though. I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to get a steel sg/cb combo or i should just get a bunch of plastic ones. BTW I am only a basher. Thanks for the input

What he said and also whats the easiest way to replace the spur?
Pull the mill or the tranny?

if your a basher you can go ahead and get a steel combo..make sure there's good mesh..if not sparks will fly....

most will say dont get the steel spur gear ...you want a weak link in your driveline & its better a $4 spur gear than your tranny gears

at least for me taking the engine out is the more easy option just remember to re loctite the screws

yeah take the tranny out. i've gone through 10 spur gear since febuary. i bought a steel rrp combo and tore my tranny up with. replaced the tranny with a 3 speed and then stripped the cb. now I'm bcak to plastic with a vented clutch bell $9. disepates heat quicker. although i did eat up a 52t spur yesterday. it was 100 degrees though.

sometimes you'll get glaze inside the cb and on the shoes which creates heat.

I'm my case yesterday HOT AS HELL outside and i was running the piss out of it in the heat and melted the teeth off. k46 generates lots of torque, power= heat.

get vented clutch bell and stick with plastic.

Well I have 5 gallons thru my K4.6 with the RR hardened spur gear and clutch bell. Not one bit of damage to trans because of this gear. 2nd gear went south in trans two times, but it is from high torque of engine and poor shifting clutch. Changed to 3 speed trans and no more shifting problems.

I really don't understand what is breaking inside trans when other people report damage because of the RR steel gears. Seems to be a popular belief the steel spur causes damage.

As a final note, I have a Hyper 7 Ofna buggy that has a steel spur gear direct from the factory. Causes no trouble.

I ran the steel spur gears on my Mammoth with no problems, and its alot heavier then my SS

Get The RRP (robinson Racing Products) Spur Gear And CB I Got One (Steel). And It Is Great. One Of My Best Investments On My savage. Now I Dont Have To Worry About Wearing Out Spur Gears (which Used To Happen alot), Till I Got A Steel One...
