Just got a savage with bout 10 tanks of gas thru it and the spur gear is already stripped. Any suggestions on upgrades to fix the problem? oh and i did put the reverse in the when i bought it maybe have messed up something when putting back together?

for upgrades you could use metal spur along with hardened pinion gear.
check points.
1. proper mesh
2. correct combination( spur and pinion)
3. slipper clutch spring to be tightened if loose

Probabaly just didn't get the mesh right. Make sure its not tight but not loose either some people use the paper trick. Get a small strip of paper and run it through the spur and CB you want it to crimp it but not rip it or be really tight.

I set mine by feel. I get the gears as close as possible while still rolling freely. It takes a bit of practice, but the result is a spur that will last a fairly long time.

it wasn't set up properly when i put it back together I'm bout to fix it now actually also doing the disc brake conversion for it since my brakes suck

Yeah... the last spur I had on a savage was used for 12 gallons... I swapped it out because I got a larger engine and geared it taller. The guy I sold the truck to still has it. It's the original spur from when I got the truck from SkyMaxx.

Glad you got it figured out.

its running the take off aint as fast as it use to be it use to rocket from a dead stop now it doesn't the brakes are awesome did the disc conversion and a futaba high torque servo stoppies are no problem now

I ran a 49T plastic spur with my stock S-25 and a 47T plastic spur with a Picco 26 for many years and I never had a problem. I ran 15/49 with the S-25 and 18/47 with the Picco 26. I recently upgraded to a Picco 28 and I can no longer run a plastic spur. The motor has too much torque for the plastic spur and it strips it out very quickly unless I set it super loose (too loose, it slips). My mesh was set fine and I still went through about 5 plastic spurs in no time. I switched to an HPI HD steel spur and an HPI HD racing clutch bell:

I now run 19/47 and all is fine with the new spur and clutch bell.
